BABSON PARK, Mass.—The quartet of graduate student
Anya Pelshaw (Sterling Heights, Mich.), sophomore
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) and first-years
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) and
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay to help the Babson College women's swimming & diving team defeat Springfield College, 121-118, in dual-meet action on Saturday afternoon inside Morse Pool.
Babson concludes its regular season with an 8-5 record, while Springfield is now 7-6.
Racicot, Pelshaw, Gilbert and Netishen posted a time of 1:38.83, which was 0.36 off the Beavers' school record in the 200 free relay. Seniors
Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.),
Maggie Cassily (Rye, N.H.),
Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) and
Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.) came in third with a time of 1:44.02 as Babson earned 13 points in the event to erase its six-point deficit.
The Beavers took first place in six of nine individual swimming events highlighted by Garvey winning both the 1000 free in a time of 11:16.78 and the 500 free in 5:32.81. Gilbert came in first in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.37 and Netishen touched the wall first in the 50 free, posting a time of 24.64.
First-year
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.27, while classmate
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) was victorious in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.54. In addition to her win, Turhan also finished as the runner-up in both the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.64 and the 200 breaststroke (2:38.22).
Netishen came in second with a time of 54.27 in the 100 free and junior
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) finished as the runner-up with a time of 2:23.35 in the 200 butterfly. The quartet of Tran, Daniels, Pelshaw and Racicot also added a second-place showing with their time of 1:51.67 in the 200 medley relay to open the meet.
Racicot finished third in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.58, Daniels claimed third place in the 50 free with a time of 26.27 and Gershanok came in third in the 200 IM with her time of 2:19.82. Pelshaw (55.19) recorded a third-place result in the 100 free, Cassily finished third in the 200 back with a time of 2:17.28 and junior
Jenny Chung (Cumming, Ga.) placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:43.09.
First-year
Annie Dong (Weston, Mass.) finished fourth in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 171.75, while senior
Elina Sung (Taichung, Tawain) came in fourth with a score of 144.30 on the 3-meter board. Fellow senior
Sophia Silver (Fayetteville, N.Y.) also placed fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:46.20.
Babson returns to action on Thursday, February 20, when it travels to Worcester, Mass., for the opening session of the four day NEWMAC Championships.
