WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) recorded the program's first event victory since 2007 and helped set a pair of school records as the Babson College men's swimming & diving team surged into third place after day three of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center Pool on Saturday.
The Beavers collected 251 points in seven events and has 508 points through 14 events over the first three days of the meet. MIT is currently first with 967 points, Coast Guard (729) sits in second place and the Green and White holds a slim lead over fourth-place Springfield (496.5).
Anutarasoti broke his own school record in the 100 breast prelims on Saturday morning before shattering his own school record and finishing first in the A final with an NCAA B-cut time of 55.10 during the evening session. His victory was the Beavers' first since Aaron Paradis '10 won the 1- and 3-meter diving events in 2007 and the first by a Babson swimmer since Ramon Lopez '02 took first in both the 50 free and 100 free back in 2002.
In addition to his record-breaking performance in the 100 breast, Anutarasoti teamed with senior
Aidan Downey-Lamprey (Norwell, Mass.) and first-years
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) and
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.) to finish third with a school-record time of 1:31.03 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Sophomore
Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) added to his weekend accomplishments by coming in second to earn All-NEWMAC honors in the 200 free. After posting a season-best time of 1:41.95 in the prelims, he was nearly three seconds faster in Saturday night's A final posting a time of 1:39.02.
Sophomore
David Krol (Grafton, Wis.) came in third in the 1-meter diving event with an NCAA-qualifying score of 469.50, while first-year
Andrew Scapicchio (Milton, Mass.) placed sixth with a score of 341.20. Ambelang finished sixth in the A final of the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 51.43 and Huynh recorded his fastest time of the year (56.60) to claim seventh place in the A final of the 100 breast.
Senior
Matthew D'Elia (Old Bridge, N.J.) registered a season-best time of 50.39 in the prelims of the 100 butterfly and recorded an eighth-place showing in the A final with a time of 50.40. First-year
Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) placed eighth in the A final of the 400 IM after setting a season-best time of 4:12.61 in the prelims, while fellow rookie
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) qualified for the A final in the 200 free and posted a season-best time of 1:42.01 to place ninth.
First-year
Liam Maloney (Tampa, Fla.) finished fourth in the B final of the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 51.07, while junior
Hawken Hammen (East Lyme, Conn.) claimed seventh position in the B final with a time of 51.76. First-year
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) touched the wall first in the B final of the 100 breast with a season-best time of 57.24 and sophomore
Chase Stevens (Suffield, Conn.) was fourth with a season-best time of 58.92.

Dom Crisafulli (Natick, Mass.) recorded a time of 53.53 to place fifth in the B final of the 100 backstroke, while classmate
Ryan Furudera (Tokyo, Japan) was just over a second behind him in eighth position with a season-best result of 54.63. The Beavers 200 medley relay team of Taslakov, Hammen, Stevens and graduate student
Cole Seeger (Lakewood, Ill.) also placed fourth in the B final with a time of 1:35.11.
The final day of the NEWMAC Championships begins with prelims on Sunday at 10 a.m., while the finals will get underway at 6 p.m.
