WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College women's swimming & diving team broke a school record in the 400-yard medley relay highlighting a number of strong performances on day two of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Friday inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center Pool.
The Beavers totaled 146 points and are currently sixth overall with 159 points through seven events. MIT holds a sizeable lead with 615 points, while Springfield (278), Wheaton (266) and Coast Guard (265) are separated by just 13 points in second through fourth place.

Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) and first-years
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) and
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) ended the morning session by setting a new school record with a time of 3:57.88 in the 400 medley relay prelims. They bettered their mark by over a second in Friday's finals, placing fifth with a time of 3:56.77.
Netishen qualified for the A final of the 50 free with a season-best time of 24.10 and placed eighth overall with a time of 24.27 during the evening session. Turhan qualified for the A final in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.93 in the prelims before posting a season-best mark of 2:09.76 on the way to finishing ninth.
Senior
Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) touched the wall with a time of 5:21.60 in the prelims of the 500 free and was nearly four seconds faster in the B final posting a career-best time of 5:17.96 to come in fifth. First-year
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) recorded a time of 2:12.20 in the 200 IM prelims and followed it up by swimming 2:12.81 to come in fifth in the B final during the night session.
Babson's top 200 free relay squad was disqualified in the prelims, but quartet of Garvey and fellow seniors
Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.),
Maggie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) and
Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.) took fourth in the B final with a time of 1:41.42.
Racicot touched the wall in season-best time of 24.94 to finish 23rd in the prelims of the 50 free, while Daniels was four spots behind her with her top time of the year (25.29). Cassily and junior
Catherine Curry (Melrose, Mass.) also registered their best times of the season in the prelims. Cassily finished in 26.32 and Curry turned in a time of 26.53.
First-year
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) narrowly missed reaching the finals in the 200 IM posting a season-best time of 2:14.50 that was good for 21st in the prelims, while junior
Julia Ahn (Fullerton, Calif.) also recorded a season-best time of 2:31.68 in the morning session. Senior
Sophia Silver (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was one of five Babson competitors in the 500 free and recorded a season-best time of 5:33.14 in Friday's prelims.
First-year
Annie Dong (Weston, Mass.) posted the Beavers' best score on the 1-meter diving board (206.80) to place 17th in the prelims, while senior
Elina Sung (Taichung, Taiwan) came in 18th with a score of 205.75.
Day three of the NEWMAC Championships gets underway with prelims at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
