WORCESTER, Mass.—Sophomore
Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) set a new school record in the 200-yard individual medley as the Babson College men's swimming & diving squad continued its strong start to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Friday inside WPI's Sports & Recreation Center Pool.
The Beavers totaled 180 points on Friday and are currently in fourth place with 257 points through seven events. MIT is first with 498 points, Coast Guard is second with 382 points and Springfield sits in third place with 271.5 points.
Taslakov grabbed the last spot in the A final with his time of 1:54.50 in the prelims of the 200 IM before breaking a five-year old school record by just 0.04 seconds with his time of 1:51.83 on his way to finishing fourth overall. Senior
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) gave Babson its second top-five finish of the night when he touched the wall in 20.83 to claim fourth place in the 50 free. The time was his best of the season after swimming 21.01 in Friday morning's prelims.
The duo also teamed with first-years
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) and
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) to finish third in the A final of the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:21.93. Anutarasoti, fellow senior
Aidan Downey-Lamprey (Norwell, Mass.), sophomore
Chase Stevens (Suffield, Conn.) Iglar added a sixth-place showing in the A final of the 200 free relay with their time of 1:23.85.
Iglar recorded a season-best time of 1:55.43 in the 200 IM prelims and then bettered it by 0.23 seconds to finish third in the B final. Fellow first-year
Liam Maloney (Tampa, Fla.) was right behind him in fifth place with a season-best time of 1:56.43 in the B final.
Graduate student
Cole Seeger (Lakewood, Ill.) qualified for the B final in the 500 free and posted a season-best time of 4:48.45 to finish in seventh position for the Green and White.
First-year
Dom Crisafulli (Natick, Mass.) was 24th in the prelims of the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.48, while classmate
Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) was one spot behind him with a season-best time of 1:58.68. Fellow rookie
Philip Spiridonov (Ridgewood, N.J.) touched the wall in 2:03.68 to place 28th in the morning session.
Sophomore
Jason Zeliph (Voorheesville, N.Y.) posted a season-best time of 4:58.47 to finish 22nd in the 500 free prelims, which was one spot and just 0.09 seconds ahead of first-year
Ilaan Garware (Pune, India), while all 11 Babson swimmers that took part in the 50 free recorded their best time of the year. Downey-Lamprey touched the wall in 21.73 to finish 23rd, first-year
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) posted a time of 21.92 and Stevens was right behind him at 21.96.
Hannenian recorded a time of 22.01and the quartet of first-year
