BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College women's swimming and diving team won eight events and finished second in eighth races and finished in a 140-140 tie against Bentley College Saturday evening inside Morse Pool.
With the tie, the Beavers are now 5-2-1 in dual meets while the Falcons move to 3-1-1 on the season. The outcome was the best for Babson since its last win over Bentley in 1999.
Sophomore
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) brought home a pair of first-place finishes and one runner-up showing for the Beavers. She touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:11.58 and came in first in the 100 butterfly in 58.63 seconds, followed by a second place in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.72.
Sophomore
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) also had a strong meet for the Beavers with a pair of victories of her own. She was the winner of the 100 backstroke in 59.64 seconds and took the 100 free in 54.07 seconds.
Sophomore
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) and junior
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) each won an individual race for the Green and White. Gilbert won the 200 free in a time of 2:01.27 and took second in the 100 fly in 1:01.35, while Racicot garnered first place in the 50 free in a career-best time of 24.60 seconds and second place in the 100 free in 55.14.
First-year
Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) and first-year
Leila Evans (Sandwich, Mass.) registered impressive finishes in the distance freestyle events. Hinckley placed second in the 1000 free in a season-best time of 11:27.58 and took fourth in the 500 free (5:40.82) while Evans was second in the 500 in 5:35.37 and third in the 1000 in 11:43.64.
Senior
Sophia Sznewajs (Edina, Minn.) earned second-place points in the 50 free with a time of 25.82 seconds and first-year
Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.) was runner-up in the 200 back in 2:15.18 and third in the 100 back in 1:03.35. First-year
AJ Hallbert (Enterprise, Ala.) was third in the 200 free in 2:07.85, and sophomore
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) was third in the 200 back in 2:15.35.
The Beavers were bolstered by victories in the two relay events. The team of Netishen, Gilbert, Turhan and Racicot was first in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.14 and the foursome of Hwang, Racicot, Evans and Netishen captured the 400 free relay in 3:44.39 seconds.
The Beavers will wrap up the first semester with an appearance at the annual Fisher Invitational, a two-day event with morning trials and evening finals at Wheaton College in November 21-22 at Norton, Mass.
