Five From Men’s Soccer Tabbed with NEWMAC All-Conference Recognition

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Five members of the Babson College men's soccer program were recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) when the annual post-season honors were announced on Friday afternoon.

Senior defender Liam Goldstein (Princeton, N.J.) is a repeat selection and is joined on the All-Conference First Team by junior midfielder Will Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.) and junior forward Alexander Yablonovskiy (Berkeley Heights, N.J.). Senior defender Joao Araujo (Boca Raton, Fla.) collected all-conference accolades for the second year in a row and was joined on the Second Team by junior midfielder Titus Charles (San Tan Valley, Ariz.).

The All-Conference teams are selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Goldstein earned his second All-Conference honor after starting in 12 of his 13 matches, averaging 78 minutes per game and playing all 90 minutes in 10 matches. Araujo received his second post-season nod after being a starter in 15 matches for the Beavers, averaging 82 minutes per game and going the distance 10 times. They were the leaders of a defensive unit that allowed just 17 goals in 20 matches, including five goals in eight NEWMAC matches, third fewest in the league. The two Beaver seniors helped the Green and White register six shutouts on the season, including three against conference opponents. Araujo has also contributed to the offense with a goal and a team-leading four assists for six points, which is fifth on the team, while Goldstein scored a goal in the conference tournament semifinal and final games, earning him the NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player award.

An All-Region First Team selection last year, Goldstein has started in 37 of his 48 games for Babson over the past three seasons, accumulating 12 points on five goals and two assists. A starter in 68 of his 78 games over the past four seasons, Araujo has totaled 15 points on three goals and nine assists.

One of only two players to start all 20 matches for the Beavers, Lloyd has been an outstanding two-way player in the midfield. He played all 90 minutes in six outings and averaged 76 minutes per game, helping the team to six shutouts while finishing in a tie for sixth on the team in scoring with five points on two goals and an assist. He scored the only Babson goal in a game against Brandeis as well as a win over Springfield and assisted on a goal against No. 13 Amherst.

Lloyd has been a solid player for the Beavers the last three seasons, starting 54 of his 67 contests and providing 13 points on five goals and three assists.

A starter in 15 of his 19 matches this season, Yablonovskiy leads the team in scoring with a career-high 21 points on a career-high nine goals and three assists. He shares the NEWMAC lead in goals and ranks fourth in points. He scored a pair of goals in a win over Clark, had goals in consecutive games against Salve Regina and WPI, and tallied a goal and an assist in the semifinals and an assist on the game-winning goal in the final of the NEWMAC Tournament.

A starter in 34 of his 58 career games, Yablonovskiy has scored 19 goals and added seven assists for 45 points, including five game-winning goals.

A first-time conference all-star, Charles is tied for second on the team in scoring from his midfield position, recording seven points on three goals and one assist, including two game-winners. He has seen action in 19 games with eight starts, and highlights include scoring a pair of goals in a win over WPI, notching one goal in a victory over MIT, and picking up an assist in a match against No. 13 Amherst. Charles joined the Beavers this season after transferring from the University of California Davis.

Babson (10-6-4) won back-to-back NEWMAC Tournament games last week to capture its second straight conference title and fifth in the last six years. The Beavers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive year and will take on SUNY Oneonta in a first-round game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in New London, Conn.
