ATTLEBORO, Mass.—The Babson College women's cross country team finished with its fourth lowest point total in program history on the way to placing seventh at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Saturday morning on the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park.
The Beavers, who also placed seventh last season, totaled 199 points to come in just two points behind sixth-place Wheaton. No. 2 MIT cruised to its 18th straight championship with 24 points, while Coast Guard (66 points) came in second. Wellesley (112 points), Smith (141 points) and Springfield (165 points) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore
Sophia Draxler (Chester, N.J.) recorded the team's top finish with a time of 24:17 on the 6k course, which was good for 34th overall. Senior
Chloe Clifford (Marshfield, Mass.) came in 42nd with a time of 24:33, and first-year
Ali Meyers (Darien, Conn.) posted a season-best time of 24:59 to finish in 54th position.
First-year
Sophia Nakakura (San Francisco, Calif.) placed 57th with a time of 25:10, while junior
Taijah Harvey (Concord, Mass.) and senior
Alexandra Kirkpatrick (Middleborogh, Mass.) were separated by just two seconds in 68th and 69th place, respectively. Harvey crossed the finish line in 25:35 and Kirkpatrick logged a time of 25:37.
First-year
Angelina Widmer (Wantagh, N.Y.) placed 86th with a time of 26:33 in her collegiate debut, sophomore
Annabelle Svenson (Montclair, N.J.) was 87th in a time of 26:34 and senior
Avery Butt (Orange, Conn.) crossed the finish line in 26:59 in her first race since August 31.
Babson returns to action on Saturday, November 15, when it travels to the Hopkinton (N.H.) Fairgrounds for the NCAA East Regional.
MEET NOTES
• The Beavers' 199 points were their lowest total since finishing seventh with 197 at Smith in 2018, and behind only the 2010 (152 points) and 2011 (168 points) squads that both placed sixth.
• Draxler moved up 25 spots after finishing 59th at last year's NEWMAC Championship, while Clifford posted her second top-50 showing after coming in 45th last year.
