Women's Volleyball Sweeps Coast Guard for Sixth Consecutive Win

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Hailey Fouche (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore Angelina Holm (Denver, Colo.) hit .500 while combining for 19 kills and six blocks to help Babson College sweep the visiting Coast Guard Academy, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

With its sixth consecutive victory, Babson improves to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in league play. Coast Guard has dropped three of its last four matches to slip to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC.

Fouche tied for match-high honors with 10 kills and led all players with four blocks, while Holm added nine kills and two blocks for the Beavers. Junior Zoe Ackerman (Aurora, Colo.) handed out 30 assists, sophomore Sabina Frosk (Coppell, Texas) finished with nine digs, and senior Sophia Shaw and first-year Misaki Harte (San Jose, Calif.) contributed two aces apiece.

Junior Abby Schweitzer (Emmaus, Pa.) recorded 10 kills, first-year Ava Ahokovi (Honolulu, Hawaii) provided 22 assists, eight digs and four kills, and senior Laila Baameur (Bakersfield, Calif.) added 16 digs in the loss for the Bears.

The Green and White trailed just once in the opening set and scored eight consecutive points on the serve of Harte to open a 19-10 lead. First-year Ailsa Munro (Sylmar, Calif.) produced a pair of kills, Harte served up two aces and junior Allison Molendyk (Danville, Calif.) added a block during the run and Coast Guard was unable to get closer than four the rest of the frame.

The Beavers went up 6-1 early in game two and got kills from Fouche and Molendyk during a four-point run that extend the margin to 18-12. The Bears answered five the next five points to get within one, but Fouche and Holm responded with two kills each during another five-point burst to stretch the Babson lead back to 23-17 on the way to going up two sets.

Coast Guard led by as many as four early in the third but hit just .063 and was undone by eight errors in the stanza. The Green and White took the lead for good at 15-14 on a block by Ackerman and Holm, and got a kill from senior Isabella Allen (Williamsville, N.Y.) and another block by Fouche and junior Nora Whitehurst (Atlanta, Ga.) to make it 20-16.

The Bears pulled within two twice, the last coming at 22-20, but Holm and Ackerman put away kills to stop the rally.

The Beavers finished with a .253 hitting percentage and held Coast Guard to its second lowest hitting percentage of the fall (.105) and 31 kills, which also matched its season low.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as Babson travels to Emerson, while the Bears host Wellesley.
