WORCESTER, Mass.—Sophomores
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) and
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) both won a pair of individual events as the Babson College women's swimming & diving team defeated three of four opponents at WPI's Quad-Meet on Friday night.
The Beavers edged the host Engineers 134-125, beat Smith 147-144 and were 188-72 winners over Brandeis. Babson's only loss on the night came in a 200-85 defeat to Coast Guard.
Turhan posted a time of 2:10.91 to win the 200 butterfly and followed it up with a time of 58.65 that was good for a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly. She was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.62, and paired with Netishen, sophomore
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) and junior
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) to take second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.75.
Netishen touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.10 and also came in first thanks to a time of 54.82 in the 100 free. Additionally, she teamed with first-year
AJ Hallbert (Enterprise, Ala.), Racicot and Gilbert to place second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.49.
Racicot finished second in the 50 free by just 0.07 seconds with her time of 25.05 and later added a fourth-place showing with a time of 55.71 in the 100 free. Gilbert came in fifth in the 100 free with a time of 56.18, while first-year
Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) placed fifth in the 1000 free (11:35.90) and registered a sixth-place result with a time of 5:33.90 in the 500 free.
Senior
Sophia Sznewajs (Edina, Minn.) finished fifth in the 50 free with a time of 26.04 and first-year
Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.) placed fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.59 and sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.50). Fellow rookie
Leila Evans (Sandwich, Mass.) and Hallbert were separated by just 0.07 seconds and came in sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100 free, while sophomore
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) finished seventh in the 200 IM.
Babson is back in Worcester on Saturday for a dual meet at Clark beginning at 1 p.m.
