Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yablonovskiy's Late Goal Helps Men's Soccer Escape with 1-1 Draw at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.—Senior Alexander Yablonivskiy (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) scored the game-tying goal with 1:07 remaining to help visiting Babson College rescue a 1-1 draw against Salve Regina University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday night at Toppa Field.

Babson, which extended its conference unbeaten streak to 36 matches, is now 7-4-3 overall and 3-0-1 in league play. Salve Regina is winless in its last two outings and is now 4-3-5 overall and 0-2-2 in the NEWMAC.

Junior McKenzy Pierre (West Orange, N.J.) picked up his second assist of the year on the tying goal and sophomore JB Montague (Lutz, Fla.) made four saves for the Beavers.

Senior Sawyer Beyer (New Milford, Conn.) scored a goal and classmate Ben Tomas (Danbury, Conn.) collected an assist for the Seahawks, who got nine saves from sophomore goalkeeper Adonis Santiago (Oakdale, Conn.).

Salve Regina opened the scoring against the run of play in the 69th minute on Beyer's third marker of the year. A long service from along the right sideline from junior Kevin Rivas (West Hartford, Conn.) was tracked down beyond the far post by Tomas, who flicked it back towards goal to set up Beyer's header inside the right post.

The Green and White pressed hard for an equalizer and broke through on Yablonovskiy's marker in the 89th minute. Yablonovskiy gained possession 40 yards from goal along the left sideline and split a pair of defenders before ripping a left-footed strike past Santiago and inside the far post for his seventh goal of the fall.

Babson outshot the hosts 13-6 in the second half and was especially dangerous over the first 15 minutes of the stanza. Yablonovskiy sent a header just over the crossbar in the 49th minute and had another header saved by Santiago in the 60th minute. Pierre also missed just wide of the left post from the top of the box on a counterattack in the 50th minute, while junior Will Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.) saw his 57th-minute free kick go just wide of the left post.

The Beavers finished with a 16-12 edge in shots and attempted five of the seven corner kicks in the match.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson travels to Emerson at 6 p.m., while Salve Regina visits Coast Guard for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
