BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Amara Ukomadu (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) scored twice in just over two minutes early in the second half to help No. 8 MIT defeat Babson College, 3-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson, which had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped, slips to 6-2-5 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play. MIT, which has won 27 consecutive NEWMAC matches since falling to the Beavers back in 2023, improves to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
First-year goalkeeper
Maisie Creamer (Boulder, Colo.) made four saves in the loss for Babson.
Junior Maddie Seebeck (San Antonio, Texas) also scored once and Shreya Kalyan (Troy, Mich.), sophomore Skye Williams (Tallahassee, Fla.) and first-year Andrea Cummings (Seattle, Wash.) each contributed an assist for the Engineers. Senior Ava Muffoletto (Kings Park, N.Y.) also made one first-half save in the victory.
MIT went in front on Seebeck's sixth goal of the season following a restart in the 24th minute. The Green and White was whistled for a foul deep in its own and Creamer was able to get her hands on the service by senior Leena Mehendale (Dallas, Texas), but Seebeck got her head on the loose ball and drilled back under the crossbar for a 1-0 advantage.
Babson first-year
Lindsay Cassady (Westfield, Ind.) was able to clear and Engineers' scoring chance off the line just over 11 minutes into the second half before Ukomadu struck twice just past the hour mark to put the game away. She scored her first goal of the year with a one-touch finish back inside the right post off a cross from Kalyan in the 64th minute and then completed her brace in the 66th minute when her shot from the left side of the box took a deflection and snuck inside the near post.
Sophomore
Lillian McAughan (Bellevue, Wash.) recorded the Beavers' only shot on goal in the 21st minute. She also attempted two of the team's three shots in the second half.
The Engineers finished with an 11-3 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday as Babson travels to Smith at 3 p.m., while MIT hosts Wheaton at 4 p.m.
