BRIDGEWATER, Mass.—The Babson College women's swimming & diving team finished first in 11 of 13 events on the way to defeating Bridgewater State University, 153-85, in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon inside Moriarty Pool.
Babson improves to 7-4 on the year with the win, while Bridgewater State is now 5-7 overall.
The top individual highlight of the day came in one of the first events as Beavers' senior
Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) broke her own record in the 1650-yard freestyle by 0.15 seconds to finish first with a time of 18:16.15. She was one of seven swimmers to record and individual victory on the day, which includes two wins apiece by sophomore
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) and first-year
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.).
Racicot touched the wall first with a time of 2:03.65 in the 200 free and later won the 100 free with a time of 56.10. Turhan finished more than 15 seconds ahead of her closest competitor with a time of 2:17.18 in the 200 IM and later posted a victory of more than four seconds with her time of 1:10.79 in the 100 breaststroke.
Senior
Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.) came in first with a time of 26.94 in the 50 free and added a second-place showing with a time of 57.65 in the 100 free. Graduate student
Anya Pelshaw (Sterling Heights, Mich.) won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.44, senior
Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.) edged the field by nearly three seconds with a time of 1:03.81 in the 100 backstroke and classmate
Sophia Silver (Fayetteville, N.Y.) touched the wall first with a time of 5:41.90 in the 500 free.
Garvey added a second-place finish with a time of 1:06.64 in the 100 backstroke and junior
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) posted runner-up finishes in both the 1650 free (19:14.89) and 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.94. First-year
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) came in second with a time of 2:08.11 in the 200 free, while classmate
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) finished as the runner-up with a time of 1:15.12 in the 100 breaststroke to go along with a third-place result in the 100 butterfly.
Sophomore
Nicolette Newsome (Bridgewater, N.J.) placed third in the 1650 free with a time of 19:15.72 and the 100 back in a time of 1:08.04, while senior
Elina Sung (Taichung, Tawain) and first-year
Ella Walgreen (Danvers, Mass.) both added third-place results in diving. Sung scored 151.65 points on the 3-meter board and Walgreen totaled 139.60 points in the 1-meter event.
In addition to Babson's success in the individual events, it also took first place in both relays. Netishen, Turhan, Gershanok and Daniels won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.78, while Gershanok, Tran, Garvey and Pelshaw posted a time of 1:45.13 in the 200 free relay.
The Beavers return to action next Saturday when they travel across town to Wellesley for a dual meet beginning at 11 a.m.
