BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-years
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) and
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) each recorded an individual victory as Babson College fell to visiting Wheaton College, 176-107, in a dual meet inside Morse Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Babson, which suffered its first dual-meet loss since November 1, is now 6-4 on the year. With the victory, Wheaton is now 7-1 overall on the season.
Gilbert touched the wall first with a time of 2:18.55 in the 200-yard individual medley, while Turhan claimed first place with a time of 2:32.79 in the 200 breaststroke. She also teamed with seniors
Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.) and
Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.) and first-year
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) to help the Beavers win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:50.68.
Gilbert, sophomore
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) and first-year
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) all recorded a pair of runner-up finishes for the Green and White. Gilbert took second with a season-best time in the 200 free (2:01.66) and 500 free (5:25.93), Racicot touched the wall second in the 50 free (25.64) and 100 free (55.96), and Gershanok added second-place results in the 200 butterfly (2:23.82) and the 200 backstroke (2:16.88).
Daniels recorded a time of 1:11.97 to finish as the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke, Tran finished second in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:02.63) and senior
Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) added a second-place result with her season-best time of 11:14.48 in the 1000 free. First-year
Annie Dong (Weston, Mass.) also took second with a season-best score of 132.25 on the 1-meter diving board.
The Beavers' final runner-up finish came in the final event of the meet as Turhan, Racicot, Netishen and sophomore
Nicolette Newsome (Bridgewater, N.J.) touched the wall in a time of 3:46.75.
In addition to its 11 runner-up finishes, Babson also came in third in six different events, which included Newsome in the 1000 free (11:47.33), Daniels in the 50 free (26.44) and Garvey in the 100 butterfly (1:07.05). Senior
Maggie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.59, junior
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) came in third with at time of 2:23.96 in the 200 butterfly, and first-year
Ella Walgreen (Danvers, Mass.) scored 116.90 points to grab third place in the 1-meter diving event.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater State for a dual meet starting at 2 p.m.
