No. 6 Field Hockey Takes on WPI in Worcester on Tuesday Evening

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have a 27-15 advantage over WPI in the all-time series that dates back to 1985.
• Babson has won 12 in a row over the Engineers since a 3-2 loss in Worcester in 2011.
• The Green and White have outscored WPI 41-5 in those 12 games with seven shutouts.

LAST MEETING
• Senior Camille Marsh scored a pair of goals and No. 2 Babson pulled away from WPI for a 5-1 victory on October 3, 2023, in Babson Park.
• Seniors Berit Sharrow and Jessica Evans and sophomore Ashley Braren also scored for the Beavers. Senior goalie Bayla Furmanek made one save in 56-plus minutes before giving way to junior Josie Ashton, who made her first appearance of the season in goal.
• Emily Sollecito '24 broke up the shutout for the visitors late in the fourth quarter with an assist by graduate student Abigail Rauch. Senior Ella Moreau made five saves in goal in the setback.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 6 Babson (6-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) is coming off a 7-0 rout of Wheaton on Friday evening in Norton, Mass.
• Junior Caroline DiGiovanni scored twice and six different players found the back of the net, including Sharrow, Evans, graduate student Andrea Marguerite, junior Ally Antonacci and sophomore Helen DiGiovanni. Senior Ellie Powers, juniors Alex Michelotti and Sanne van der Goes and graduate student Katie Guden all collected assists.
Caroline DiGiovanni (7-3-17) is tied for third in the NEWMAC in scoring and second in goals while Evans (4-1-9) and Marguerite (3-2-8) are second and third on the team in points. The Beavers have a balanced attack as Helen DiGiovanni (3-1-7), Guden (3-1-7), and Sharrow (3-1-7) have all scored three goals.
• Furmanek (0.88 GAA, 28 saves) has started 61 consecutive games in the Babson goal, leads the league with five shutouts and ranks 20th in Division III in goals against average.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• WPI (5-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) has won four of its last five games, including a 3-0 whitewash over Clark on Saturday.
• Junior Abbey Powers tallied a goal and an assist in the win and graduate student Lauren Meinhold and senior Alexandra Wolf potted one goal each. Senior Eliza Dutson and junior Arie Lang contributed assists for the Engineers, who had a 26-4 advantage in shots. First-year Myles Lakin made four saves in the second half to preserve the shutout.
• Meinhold (3-3-9) leads a balanced scoring attack for the Engineers, who have seven multi-goal scorers. Sophomore Sophie Papamechail (3-1-7) and junior Eve Martineau (3-0-6) have three goals apiece, and Powers (2-3-7) and Dutson (0-3-3) share the team assist lead.
• Moreau (1.42 GAA, 26 svs.) has started all nine games in the WPI goal and has two shutouts.

ROAD WARRIORS
• Tuesday's encounter is the fourth straight road game for the Green and White and the seventh in the last eight outings.
• Babson is 4-2 on the road this season and 27-5 on opponent's turf over the past four seasons.

MOVING UP ON THE CHARTS
• Furmanek's win over Wheaton on Friday gave her a career record of 47-9, tying her for second place with Jess Pasho (2008-11) for second place on the program's all-time list for victories.
• Furmanek extended her program record for career shutouts to 26.

THE STREAK CONTINUES
• Babson has won 61 consecutive NEWMAC regular season games going back to October 20, 2015. The last regular season loss was a 1-0 verdict at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.
• The Beavers have captured 33 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents, including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.

BEAVER BITES
• The Beavers are ranked fifth in Division III in shutouts per game (0.56) and 20th in team goals against average (0.88).
• The Green and White are ranked 19th in Division III in scoring margin (+2.32).
• Babson has outscored its opponents 29-8, with goals from 11 different scorers.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 28-2 since the start of last year and 63-2 over the past four seasons when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The Green and White have won its last 59 games over the past four campaigns when leading at halftime.
• Since 2018, the Beavers are 46-0 in the month of October.
