Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) capped off a terrific weekend by winning the singles B draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Sunday afternoon.
Wang defeated top-seeded Thehan Wejimanne of Middlebury in the semifinals, 7-5, 6-4, and then knocked off second-seeded Andrej Djokic of Tufts in three sets in the championship match. The teams split the first two sets before Wang outlasted Djokic 6-2, 0-6, 10-5.
Sunday's victories over the top two players in the draw wrapped up a 6-0 weekend in singles for Wang. He beat both Marcus Carlson of Trinity 8-1 the first round and followed it up with an 8-1 triumph over James Bogdanovic of Colby in the second round on Friday. Wang was an 8-2 winner over Huasen Dong of Williams in the third round and then cruised past Kiran Garapati of Bowdoin in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2.
Including a victory in his only singles match last weekend at the MIT Invitational, Wang is off to a 7-0 start on the year.
Babson will return to action next Friday when it travels to Middletown, Conn., for the Wesleyan Invitational.
