MEDFORD, Mass.—First-year
Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) advanced to the semifinals of the singles B draw for the Babson College men's tennis team on day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Saturday at Tufts University.
Wang posted a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating Huasen Dong of Brandeis, 8-2, in the round of 16, and eliminating Kiran Garapati of Bowdoin in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2. Wang will take on the top seed in the bracket, Thehan Wejimanne of Middlebury, in the semifinals on Sunday morning.
Wang was one of two Babson players alive in the singles B draw entering Saturday. The other, first-year
Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) was eliminated in the round of 16 by Nico Tremblay of Tufts, 8-5.
Both Babson doubles tandems who advanced to Saturday's play in the main doubles draw were eliminated in the round of 16. Seniors
Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway), who were seeded fourth, were knocked out by Middlebury's Hugh Hentschel and Neil Epstein, 8-6, and first-years
Mason Nguyen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and Mendoza, who recorded a pair of victories on Friday, were defeated by second-seeded Vuk Vuksanovic and Derin Acaraglu of Tufts, 8-4.
The Beavers will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational from October 4-6 in Middletown, Conn.
