MEDFORD, Mass.—The Babson College men's tennis team won three of four doubles matches and saw five players advance to day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Friday at Tufts University.
Seniors
Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway), who are seeded fourth in the doubles draw, received a first round bye and then defeated Jake Cohen and Marco Ziets-Sagura of Colby, 8-3, in the second round. Joining them in the round of 16 are first-years
Mason Nguyen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and
Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.), who recorded a pair of victories on Friday. They beat Aden Dorros and Jack Pollock of Bowdoin 8-3 in the first round and then edged Shawn Berdia and Bobby Cooper of Williams 8-7 (7-4).
Mendoza, who is the eighth seed in the B draw, was the lone Babson singles player to advance to day two. After receiving a first round bye he downed Nikil Argarwal of Connecticut College 8-3.
Anderson defeated Tatsuya Kimoto of Springfield, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, in the first round of the A draw before suffering a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Noah Lewis of Middlebury in the second round. Lepsoe dropped a straight-set decision to Hugh Hentschel of Middlebury and junior
Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) fell to No. 1 Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts, 7-5, 6-1, in the first round.

Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) was an 8-1 winner over Marcus Carlson of Trinity and sophomore
Mattias Harrell (Oslo, Norway) topped Zietz-Sagura of Colby 8-3 in the first round of the B singles draw. Wang then topped James Bogdanovic of Tufts 8-1 to advance to Saturday's third round, while Harrell suffered a 9-7 loss to Alex Edstrom of Trinity.
Day two play begins with doubles matches starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
