BEVERLY, Mass.— Senior
Elisa Diletizia (Canton, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game and classmate
Nora Ryan (Abington, Mass.) made a season-high seven saves in goal as Babson College blanked Endicott College, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.
The Beavers registered their second straight shutout victory, improving their record to 2-3-0 on the season, while Endicott was blanked for the fourth consecutive outing and dropped to 3-2-2 overall.
The host Gulls finished with a 25-6 advantage in shots, including 7-1 in shots on goal, but Diletizia made the one Beaver shot on target count midway through the first half.
Babson first-year
Lillian McAughan (Bellevue, Wash.) was broken up in the Endicott zone by a pair of Gull defenders in the 29th minute. The ball ended up on the foot of Diletizia, who made a nifty crossover move to her right to avoid a defender before ripping a shot from 20 yards out into the lower left corner of the goal at 28:32.
Endicott junior Alyssa McColl (Danvers, Mass.) nearly tied the score in the 33rd minute but her close shot from the right ride bounced off the cross bar, and Ryan denied classmate Gabrielle Klindtworth (Guilderland, N.Y.) on the rebound. Ryan also turned away another bid by Klindtworth late in the half and made a pair of saves on senior Grace Jewett (Millis, Mass.) in the opening minutes of the second half.
The Babson defense, led by senior
Laura Lukowicz (Coventry, R.I.) and sophomores
Jadyn Mapura (East Hanover, N.J.),
Caroline Sutherland (Millville, Mass.), and
Claudia Baiter (Miami, Fla.), did the rest to keep the Gulls off the scoreboard.
The Beavers are back in action on Friday with a visit to Bowdoin at 5 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine. Endicott travels to Hartford on Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
