Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Helps Bowdoin Earn 1-1 Draw with Women's Soccer

BRUNSWICK, Maine—Sophomore Janiya Ocampo (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored her first career goal midway through the second half to help visiting Babson College earn a 1-1 draw against Bowdoin College in non-conference women's soccer action on Friday evening at Pickard Field.

Babson, which is unbeaten in its last three matches, improves  2-3-1 on the year, while Bowdoin is now 1-2-3 overall.

First-year Josie Lee (Duxbury, Mass.) recorded an assist and senior goalkeeper Nora Ryan (Abington, Mass.) matched her career high with seven saves for the Beavers.

Junior Rylie McLaren (Carlsbad, Calif.) had a goal and classmate Charlotte Iannone (East Williston, N.Y.) made seven saves for the Polar Bears.

The Green and White broke the scoreless deadlock in the 71st minute on Ocampo's first collegiate goal. Lee collected a long pass from senior Laura Lukowicz (Coventry, R.I.) and dribbled past two defenders before forcing Iannone to make a diving save going to her left. The rebound popped straight out and Ocampo put it away from inside 10 yards for a 1-0 advantage.

Babson carried its lead into the final minute of the match only to see McLaren find a late equalizer by beating Ryan with a 26-yard strike inside the far post with 36 seconds remaining.

Both sides had chances over the opening final 45 minutes despite entering the break scoreless. Beavers' senior Jordyn Ferrantino (Millis, Mass.) forced Iannone to make a diving save on her header in the 24th minute, while Ryan laid out to deny Polar Bears' first-year Sofia Rua (Miami, Fla.) on a breakaway in the 38th minute.

Both sides finished with eight shots on frame while the Polar Bears finished with a 16-12 edge in total shots to go along with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday when they host Wheaton at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Bowdoin is off until September 28 when it faces Hamilton at 12 p.m.
