BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore
Alexander Yablonovskiy (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute to lift Babson College to a 1-0 victory over Western New England University in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
With the victory, Babson remains undefeated on the season with a 2-0-3 record while Western New England is now 2-3-2.
Junior
James Modiano (Montclair, N.J.) picked up the assist on the game-winner, and senior goalie
Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) needed to make just one save to record his third clean sheet of the season.
Sophomore Braylon Casinghino (Brimfield, Mass.) made seven saves in goal for the Golden Bears, who were outshot by the hosts 18-4, including 8-1 in shots on goal.
Despite the large margin shot, the Beavers, who controlled play most of the afternoon, potted the game-winning goal with time winding down. Modiano sent a thru ball into the scoring box during a fast break and Yablonovskiy redirected the ball from about 10 yards out past a charging Casinghino that snuck just inside the left post for his first goal of the season.
The Beavers had the only two shots on target in the first half but Casinghino denied Yablonovskiy on a header from point blank range in the 13th minute and swallowed an attempt by graduate student
James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) in the 23rd minute.
Casinghino went to his left to stop junior
Joao Araujo (Boca Raton, Fla.) early in the second half and made another point-blank save on Yablonovskiy in the 58th minute. The Golden Bears' keeper made three saves in a two-minute span in the final 10 minutes to keep the game scoreless, stopping senior
Nate Rouette (Suffield, Conn.) in the 83rd minute and junior
Liam Goldstein (Princeton, N.J.) on a pair of attempts following a corner kick in the 85th minute.
Babson plays its third straight home game on Tuesday against Roger Williams at 4 p.m. at Hartwell-Rogers Field. Western New England returns home to host Western Connecticut on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
