Men's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Draw with Gordon

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Matias Gutierrez (Coral Gables, Fla.) scored in the ninth minute but Babson College conceded a late equalizer and settled for a 1-1 draw against visiting Gordon College in non-conference men's soccer action at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Babson has played to a draw in its last two matches and is now 1-0-3 on the year, while Gordon improves its record to 1-3-1 overall.

Graduate student Tyler Fidrych (Stonington, Conn.) picked up his first assist of the season and senior goalkeeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) made five saves for the Beavers.

First-year Gilbert Daru (Charlotte, N.C.) had a goal and senior Cole Levis (Newtown Square, Pa.) registered an assist for the Fighting Scots, who got six saves from first-year Carson Flake (Stanley, Kan.).

The Green and White, which saw graduate student James Donaldson's (Kirkland, Quebec) cleared off the goal line by sophomore Luke Lindas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) less than six minutes into the contest, took the lead on the first tally of the season by Gutierrez at the 8:29 mark. Fidrych took a pass from Donaldson and beat a defender on the left side of the box before lofting a cross for Gutierrez, who headed it back inside the left post for a 1-0 lead.

White made his best save of the game to kick away a half-volley by first-year Moises Montano (Puebla Puebla, Mexico) in the 27th minute and Babson graduate student Samuel Kalishman (Clarksville, Md.) drilled near post off a shot from the left side of the box less than a minute later. Flake came charging off his line to take the ball off the foot of Beavers' sophomore Tyler Shin (Chantilly, Va.) in the 79th minute to maintain Gordon's one-goal deficit.

White made a diving save to push away a blast by Lindas in the 87th minute but Levis got a touch on the ensuing corner kick and Daru found the upper corner with a bicycle kick from inside 10 yards to tie the match.

Babson finished with a 16-7 edge in shots and attempted 11 of the 12 corner kicks in the contest.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday when they host Western New England at 12 p.m., while Gordon travels to St. David's, Pa., to face Eastern on Friday at 4 p.m.
