Baseball Overpowers Hartford to Run Winning Streak to 11 Games, 22-5

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Jack Julian (Manchester, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored, and Babson College scored in every inning but the first on the way to defeating the University of Hartford, 22-5 in seven inning, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.

With its 11th straight win, Babson improves to 14-6 on the year. Hartford has dropped 11 of its last 12 games to slip to 4-15-1 overall.

Sophomore Chris Basile (Miami Beach, Fla.) went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI and first-year Dante D'Avanzo (Ashland, Mass.) singled twice and drove in three runs as 13 players recorded a hit while 10 players knocked in at least one run for the Beavers. Junior Justin Guest (West Windsor, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, senior Ike Kiely (Falmouth, Mass.) had two singles and scored three times, and classmate Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) added two hits and an RBI in the victory.

Senior Jake Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with two RBI and first-year Zaynn Godbee (Hartford, Conn.) had an RBI single to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.

Kiely, Julian Basile and senior Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) all knocked in runs to give the Green and White a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the second. The Beavers added to their lead in the third as Julian plated Kiely and junior Walter Sadowsky (Morristown, N.J.) with a double to right, Savage sandwiched an RBI double in between run-scoring singles by Basile and graduate student Luke Tanner (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Guest capped the seven-run uprising with a two-run single to center to make it 13-1.

D'Avanzo and Basile drove in a run apiece as part of a four-run fourth-inning rally, and sophomore Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) plated Kiely with an RBI single to right extending the Babson lead to 19-5 in the fifth. D'Avanzo brought home first-year Jack Moses (Belle Mead, N.J.) with a single to right in the seventh and classmate Kevin Hurley (Westwood, Mass.) recorded his first career RBI with a two-out base hit one batter later for the final margin.

Sophomore James Clark (Southborough, Mass.) improved to 3-1 with the win after giving up one run on two hits in three innings of work. Junior Luke McClintock (South Hamilton, Mass.), senior Kyle Wolff (Stratham, N.H.) and junior Cole Velis (Lexington, Mass.) combined for four strikeouts in three perfect innings of relief.

Both teams return to action on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. as Babson travels to Southern Maine, while Hartford visits Mitchell.
