Match Recap: #5 Women's Tennis |

No. 15 Women’s Tennis Taken Down by No. 3 Emory, 6-3

ATLANTA — No. 15 Babson College captured victories in two out of three doubles matches but saw No. 3 Emory University bounce back with wins in five out of six singles matches to take a 6-3 triumph over the Beavers in a non-conference women's tennis match Friday afternoon at The WoodPEC on Emory's campus.

With the setback, the Beavers lost for the second time in their last three outings and fell to 7-3 on the season. Emory won its seventh straight match and improved to 10-3 this spring.

Sophomore Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) secured victories in both singles and doubles for the Beavers, winning in straight sets at second singles after teaming up with junior Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for a verdict at number one doubles. Senior Juliette Moschella (Little Silver, N.J.) and first-year Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) produced a win at number three doubles for the Green and White.

Cristiani and Soffer, ranked No. 2 in Division III doubles, took down the fifth-ranked duo of sophomore Emily Kantrovitz (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior Ana Cristina Perez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) at number one doubles, 8-4. Moschella and Kamal pulled out a win over first-year Yanire Marte (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Izzy Antanavicius (Villanova, Pa.) at number three, 8-7 (7-4), but sophomore Iris Berman (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Eliza McPherron (Weston, Mass.) defeated first-year Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and senior Adèle Fernández (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) at number two, 8-5.

In the marquis match-up at number one singles between sixth-ranked Kantrovitz and 17th-ranked Olivia Soffer, it was Kantrovitz taking a 6-4, 6-1 win. Third-ranked Cristiani won a 6-3, 6-3 verdict over seventh-ranked Perez at number two, and the Eagles breezed to straight-set wins in the other four singles battles. Senior Ilayda Baykan (Istanbul, Turkey) downed sophomore Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) at number three, 6-2, 6-1; Antanavicius defeated Chaniel Soffer at number four, 6-2, 6-2; Berman knocked off junior Laetitia Rizk (Beirut, Lebanon) at number five, 6-2, 6-0; and McPherron posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Moschella at number six.
