BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) became the program's all-time leader in doubles wins as No. 18 Babson College defeated visiting Springfield College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action.
Babson improves to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play with the win, while Springfield drops to 3-11 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC with the loss.
Soffer and sophomore
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) were 8-4 winners at number one doubles to improve to 25-2 on the year. Senior
Adèle Fernández (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and first-year
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded an 8-1 victory at number, while seniors
Juliette Moschella (Little Silver, N.J.) and
Jane Wang (San Diego, Calif.) picked up an 8-3 win at number three.
The Beavers dominated in singles play winning all six matches in straight sets. Soffer posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number one, Cristiani was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at number two and sophomore
Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number three.
Moschella earned her second point of the day with a 6-0, 6-3 result at number four, Wang cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five and fellow senior
Shanaya Naik (Mumbai, India) rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 victory at number six.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday as Babson hosts Wheaton at 3 p.m., while Springfield travels to Smith for a 4 p.m. match.
