BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student
Luke Tanner (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit a walk-off double with one out in the bottom of the ninth to help Babson College rally for a 5-4 win over visiting Lasell University in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Govoni Field.
Babson, which has won 12 of its last 14 games, improves to 15-8 on the year. Lasell has dropped three of its last four games to dip to 19-11 overall.
Tanner went 3-for-5, senior
Jack Julian (Manchester, Mass.) was 2-for-3 and graduate student
John Nowak (Pelham, N.Y.) and senior
Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) both doubled in the win for the Beavers. First-year
Dante D'Avanzo (Ashland, Mass.) also singled and drove in a run, while sophomore
Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) improved to 3-1 on the year with the win in relief.
Senior Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, graduate student Scott Lyon (Weston, Mass.) singled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored once, and senior CJ Mills (Waltham, Mass.) doubled and scored twice to lead the Lasers. Junior Jeremy Blackwood (Windsor, Conn.) earned a no-decision after giving up one earned run over 6.0 innings.
Down 1-0 going to the bottom of the fifth, D'Avanzo singled with one out and stole second before scoring on a throwing error to tie the game. The Green and White took its first lead of the game in the sixth as senior
Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) led off with a walk and stole second before coming home on Nowak's two-out double to right center to make it 2-1.
Audet's RBI single tied the game in the top of the seventh and Lasell scratched out a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit to build a 4-2 advantage in the top of the eighth. The Beavers answered back in the bottom of the frame though, as Savage stroked a one-double down the right field line and later scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to one before D'Avanzo grounded out to second after back-to-back walks to bring home Tanner with the tying run.
Teator retired the side in order in the top of the ninth and first-year
Alexander Wilson (Millburn, N.J.) was plunked to start the bottom of the frame. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Santos and came home with the game-winning run on Tanner's towering double to deep left two batters later.
Junior
Luke McClintock (South Hamilton, Mass.) got the start for Babson and setting for a no-decision after striking out five and allowing two runs on four hits over 7.0 innings.
The Beavers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Tufts at 3:30 p.m., while Lasell travels to Nichols on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
