Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) and
Wesley Zhang (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered points in both singles and doubles as No. 32 Babson College defeated local rival Brandeis University, 7-2, in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson has won four of its last five matches to move to 8-8 overall while Brandeis, which has just five players on its roster, has dropped seven in a row to dip to 1-11.
The teams split the first two doubles matches as Lepsoe and graduate student
Jonah Wilson (Gilbert, Ariz.) defeated first-years Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont) and Harrison Huai (Irvine, Calif.) at number two, 8-5, before Brandeis' duo of senior Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md.) and first-year Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla.) knocked off the Babson tandem of graduate student
Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.) and first-year
Logan Back (Busan, South Korea) at number one, 8-3. The Judges forfeited at number three to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Zhang breezed past Huai at number five, 6-1, 6-0, for the first singles point, and Lepsoe downed Garbett at number two, 6-0, 7-5, to clinch the team victory, which included a forfeit win at number six.
Brandeis registered its only singles victory at number four when senior Aaron Basye (Mission Viejo, Calif.) defeated Back, 6-3, 6-1. The Beavers captured the remaining two singles matches as first-year
Kerem Ozlale (Istanbu, Turkey) pulled out a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Walters at number one and senior
Jose Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico) outlasted Dong at number three, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
The Beavers are right back in action on Sunday, hosting No. 18 Mary Washington at 10 a.m. at the Babson Tennis Courts. Brandeis plays next Saturday at No. 11 Tufts at 3 p.m. in Medford.
