BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College senior
Abbie Downer (North Andover, Mass.) was tabbed as the Dunn Gaherin's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Downer has started all six games this spring on defense, scooping up nine ground balls and adding four caused turnovers. She matched her season high with three ground balls in the Beavers' 13-9 victory at then-No. 17 Chicago on March 10 and recorded a season-high two forced turnovers in last Sunday's 16-7 rout of then-13th-ranked Trinity.
A starter in 40 of 44 career games at Babson, Downer has picked up 43 ground balls while forcing 16 turnovers over the last three seasons. She also recorded her only career point with an assist in a 22-5 triumph at Wellesley on April 16, 2022.
Downer and 23rd-ranked Babson (5-1), which re-entered the IWLCA Division III poll for the first time since 2019 on Monday, will host Mount Holyoke on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Started in 2020, the Dunn Gaherin's Scholar-Athlete of the Week award honors junior and senior student-athletes that carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher.

Similar to my answer above Brad Johnson has been my favorite professor. He sparked my interest in operations management and is so willing to help students with whatever they need. He wrote my recommendation to graduate school here at Babson.

My teammates are simply phenomenal. Sharing every day with this amazing group, battling it out at the top of our game, is an unparalleled source of joy and fulfillment.
Plans following graduation
I will be using my last year of eligibility to play lacrosse and get my master's in business analytics at Babson's Graduate School.
