Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.— Four players won matches in both singles and doubles as No. 27 Babson College rolled to a 9-0 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action held at the Boston Sports Club on Saturday morning.
With the victory, Babson snapped a two-match losing skid and improved to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in NEWMAC matches, while Clark dropped its second straight match and fell to 7-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Juniors
Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) and
Wesley Zhang (Staten Island, N.Y.) and first-years
Logan Back (Busan, South Korea) and
Brandon Reznik (Boca Raton, Fla.) were double-winners for the Beavers. Lepsoe also teamed up with first-year
Caymus Choi (Hong Kong, China) and Reznik paired up with sophomore
Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) for doubles victories, and first-year
Mattias Harrell (Oslo, Norway) and junior
Eshan Mukherjee (Basel Switzerland) posted wins in singles.
The Green and White cruised to easy wins in doubles to take a 3-0 lead. Lepsoe and Choi downed sophomore Edward Shepherd-Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.) and first-year Aris Kirkorian (Sunnyside, N.Y.), 8-3, at No. 1, Zhang and Back registered an 8-4 victory over senior Tanner Honnef (Camarillo Calif.) and junior Ryan Hovey (Newburgh, N.Y.) at No. 2, and Reznik and Mejia defeated first-year Adham Seraj (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Graham Russo (Bridgewater, Mass.) at No. 3, 8-2.
Lepsoe needed a first-set tiebreaker to get past Shepherd-Johnson at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0. Back breezed past Kirkorian at No. 2 and Zhang defeated Honnef at No. 3, both by 6-2, 6-2 scores. Reznik posted a 6-3, 6-0 verdict over Russo at No. 4, Harrell was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Hovey at No. 5, and Mukherjee wrapped up the sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Seraj at No. 6.
Babson is back in action on Thursday with a NEWMAC match at Coast Guard at 3:30 p.m. in New London, Conn. Clark plays again on Saturday, hosting Wheaton in a conference match at 10:30 a.m.
