BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior
Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) capped a five-run eighth inning with a two-out, bases-loaded double to lift Babson College to a 7-6 come-from-behind win over visiting Keene State College in non-conference baseball action on Monday afternoon at Govoni Field.
Babson has won its four of its last five games to improve to 5-6 on the year. Keene State has dropped four straight outings to fall to 4-9 overall.
Senior
Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, while graduate students
Luke Tanner (Los Angeles, Calif.) and
John Nowak (Pelham, N.Y.) and junior
Walter Sadowsky (Morristown, N.J.) each singled for the Beavers. Sophomore
Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) struck out two in 1.2 innings of shutout relief to pick up his first collegiate win.
Sophomore Otis Follet (Easthampton, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and classmate Evan Cali (Taunton, Mass.) and first-year Ethan Rainha (Tolland, Conn.) both knocked in a run for the Owls. Sophomore Jake Jachym () had to settle for a no-decision after striking out four and giving up just one earned run over 6.2 innings.
Trailing 6-2 going to the bottom of the eighth, the Green and White sent 10 men to the plate and scored five times to go in front for good. The Owls were unable to turn a potential inning-ending double play that allowed Savage to score the first run, first-year
Alexander Wilson (Millburn, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and senior
Jack Julian (Manchester, Mass.) worked a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Santos then ripped a double down the right field line that brought home sophomore pinch runner
Nick Coletti (Carlisle, Mass.), Wilson and Julian to give Babson a 7-6 lead.
Sophomore
James Clark (Southborough, Mass.) retired the first eight batters he faced before running into trouble with two outs in the second as Keene State took advantage of a hit batsman, a walk, an RBI single by sophomore Tommy Ahlers (Salem, N.H.) and a throwing error to go in front 2-0. The Beavers pulled even with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth though, as Nowak followed back-to-back singles by Tanner and Savage with an RBI knock before Sadowsky reached on an error allowing Savage to score to make it 2-2.
Ahlers doubled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2 in the sixth and Keene scored three more runs in the top of the eighth. Junior Shea Zina (Greenville, N.H.) and first-year George Young (Brentwood, N.H.) drew back-to-back walks with one out, Rainha drove in the first run of the frame with a double to left and Follet followed with a two-out double down the left field line as the Owls extended their lead to 6-2.
Clark, who made his third start of the year, fanned six and allowed two runs and two hits over 6.0 innings in a no-decision for the Beavers.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Salem State for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m., while Keene State travels to Westfield State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
