WESTWOOD, Mass.— Eight members of the Babson College men's swimming and diving team were recognized for success in the classroom when they were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team on Thursday.
Representing Babson on the All-Academic Team were seniors
Joshua Kim (La Cañada Flintridge, Calif.),
Oak Kornsri (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Joshua Sellers (Fair Oaks, Calif.), juniors
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand),
Matthew D'Elia (Old Bridge, N.J.) and
Brett Sheldrick (Plantsville, Conn.), and sophomores
Zackary Cheung (Monterey Park, Calif.) and
Spencer Ernst (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).
Kim received the honor for the third consecutive year, Kornsri
, Anutarasoti, D'Elia and Sheldrick are two-time selections, and Sellers, Cheung and Ernst are first-time honorees. Academic all-conference honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2023 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
A Business major, Kim wrapped up an outstanding career for the Beavers and finishes as one of the program record holders in the 200 medley relay. He placed eighth at the NEWMAC Championships in the 400 IM and 15th in the 200 IM as well as 13th in the 200 breaststroke. He also posted one of the top four times on the team in the 100 free (47.51), 50 backstroke (24.33), 200 breast (2:10.03), 200 fly (2:02.37), 200 IM (1:55.66), and 400 IM (4:11.53).
Finance and Legal Studies, Kornsri has been solid entry for the Beavers in breaststroke events as well as sprint freestyle. He posted career-best times of 28.55 in the 50 breast, 1:03.36 in the 100 breast and 2:09.76 in the 200 breast and touched the wall in 24.29 seconds in the 50 free and 54.05 in the 100 free.
An Accounting major, Sellers made his mark in breaststroke and IM events this season. He placed ninth at the NEWMAC Championships in the 200 breaststroke, 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 14th in the 200 IM. Sellers owns the second-best time in program history in the 200 breast (2:05.96), fourth-best in the 100 breast (57.76), and seventh-best in the 200 IM (1:55.09).
A Business major, Anutarasoti has been one of the top swimmers in the NEWMAC the past three seasons. He set the Babson program record this season in the 100 fly (49.08) and was a member of the record setting 800 free relay, and he also owns the second-best time in program history in the 50 free (20.73) and 100 breaststroke (56.08). Anutarasoti finished in the top six in three events at the NEWMAC Championships, placing fourth in the 100 fly and 100 breast and sixth in the 50 free.
A Business major, D'Elia has recorded his top performances this season in the butterfly and freestyle events. He placed fifth at the NEWMAC Championships in the 200 fly, 12th in the 100 fly, and 20th in the 500 freestyle. He owns the second-fastest time in program history in the 200 fly (1:53.01) and third best in the 100 fly (50.32).
A Finance major, Sheldrick has been one of the most versatile swimmers for the Beavers, competing in races in all four strokes as well as the 200 IM. He missed competing this season while studying abroad at the London School of Economics.
A Marketing major, Cheung was a team contributor this season in backstroke and IM events. He posted the third-best times for the Beavers in the 100 back (53.62) and 200 back (2:01.28), fifth-fastest in the 50 back and sixth-best in the 200 IM (1:56.58).
An Operations Management, Ernst had a terrific season in the distance freestyle events, setting three program records and scoring points at the NEWMAC Championships in three events. He broke programs records in the 500 free (4:35.31), 1000 free (9.43.01) and 1650 (16:11.86), and placed fourth at NEWMAC in the 1650, seventh in the 500 and 11th in the 200 free. In addition to his three records, his time in the 200 free ranks seventh in program history.
Babson finished with a 5-6 record in dual meets this winter and placed fourth in the team standings at the NEWMAC Championships with 740.5 points, the program's highest total since 2002.
