Baseball Wraps Up Florida Trip with Win Over Pitt-Bradford, 12-2

FORT MYERS, Fla.— Junior Justin Guest (West Windsor, N.J.) and first-year Alexander Wilson (Millburn, N.J.) homered to lead a 13-hit attack and first-year Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Mass.) struck out seven batters to record his first career win as Babson College wrapped up its Florida trip with a 12-2 victory over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford Thursday morning in the Gene Cusic Baseball Classic at Terry Park.

With the win, Babson completes the trip to the Sunshine State with a 4-3 record and is now 4-6 overall. Pitt-Bradford lost its second game in a row and dipped to 5-6 on the season.

Six Beavers collected two hits on the day. Guest had two hits and a walk and scored twice, Wilson had two knocks, scored twice and drove in a pair, and senior Ike Kiely (Falmouth, Maine) and junior Walter Sadowski (Morristown, N.J.) both had a single and a double and knocked in two. Sophomore Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had two singles and first-year Dante D'Avanzo (Ashland, Mass.) produced a single and a double and scored three times for the Beavers, and senior Luca Rubin (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with a pinch-hit two-run double in the win.

Finkelstein allowed just two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings for his first win (1-1). Junior Luke McClintock (South Hamilton, Mass.) and graduate student Zach Magee (Indianapolis, Ind.) each pitched one scoreless inning of relief as the Beavers closed out the win in eight innings.

Junior Maxwell Rogers (Bellefonte, Pa.) had two hits and knocked in both runs for the Panthers while senior Evan Frangela (Guaynabo, P.R) and junior Kyle Kimoto (Mars, Pa.) also produced a pair of hits each. Senior Andrew Bokulich (Gibsonia, Pa.) scored both runs after reaching base three times on a single and two walks in the setback. Senior Brandon Amidon-Crawford (Syracuse, N.Y.) was tagged for five earned runs in 3.1 innings and took the loss (0-1).

After Pitt-Bradford scored once in the bottom of the first on Rogers' sacrifice fly, Babson took the lead with three runs in the top of the second. Kiely delivered a two-run double to center field and later scored on a balk. Both teams tacked on a run in the third inning as the Beavers got a sac fly by Sadowsky and the Panthers answered with an RBI single by Rogers.

The Green and White pulled away with a three-run rally in the top of the fourth. Kiely led off with a single up the middle and came around when Wilson clouted his second home run of the season to left field. Santos was hit by a pitch, stole second and came around to score on an infield throwing error.

Sadowski cracked an RBI double down the left field line for another Beaver run in the sixth inning. A two-out, three-run rally in the seventh inning included an RBI double by D'Avanzo and a two-run double by Rubin. Guest rounded out the scoring for the Green and White with a solo home run left center, his first of the season.

Finkelstein allowed just two hits and hit a batter from the fourth through the sixth innings and didn't let a runner past first base in that stretch. He was aided by a double play to end the fifth inning. McClintock worked out of a bases-loaded jam without giving up a run in the seventh inning and Magee retired the side in order in the eighth.

The Beavers will return to Babson Park for the home opener on Monday against Keene State at 3:30 p.m. at Govoni Field. Pitt-Bradford faces Haverford in a doubleheader Friday in Fort Myers beginning at 9 a.m.
