No. 16 Men's Tennis Set for Weekend Road Matches at No. 4 Bowdoin and No. 3 Tufts

WHAT TO KNOW

•    Babson hits the road for matches against a pair of top-five opponents as it travels to Brunswick, Maine, to face No. 4 Bowdoin on Saturday before taking on No. 3 Tufts in Beverly, Mass., on Sunday afternoon. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Bowdoin

•    Babson has dropped its last 12 matches against the Polar Bears dating back to 1998.
•    The Beavers suffered an 8-1 loss to Bowdoin in the last meeting between the teams on March 20, 2019, in Claremont, Calif. 

vs. Tufts
•    Babson is 0-21 all-time against the Jumbos in a series that dates back to the 1994-95 season.
•    The Beavers dropped an 8-1 decision to Tufts in their final match of the regular season on April 16 of last year. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 16 Babson (3-2) is coming off a 6-3 loss at 29th-ranked Rensselaer back on February 17. 
•    Graduate student Jonah Wilson, junior Ole Lepsoe and first-year Kerem Ozlale all recorded straight-set victories in singles for the Beavers, who lost a pair of close matches and trailed 3-0 after doubles. 
•    Wilson is 11-4 in all matches and 2-1 at number two singles, junior Brady Anderson is 2-1 at number one singles and senior Jose Gonzalez is 8-6 overall and 2-1 in dual matches with victories at number three and number five. 
•    Anderson and Lepsoe are 1-1 at number one doubles, Wilson is 6-5 in all double matches and Gonzalez (5-5) has won twice at number three. 

SCOUTING THE POLAR BEARS
•    No. 4 Bowdoin (0-0) returns 10 players from a team that went 17-5 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2023. 
•    The Polar Bears return four of their top six singles players, highlighted by All-Americans Tristan Bradley and Reid Staples.
•    Bradley went 26-5 in singles, Staples, who is ranked 25th nationally by the ITA, went 18-8 last year, and Mark Kneiss finished his rookie campaign with a mark of 19-7. 
•    Staples and Kneiss were both 14-9 in doubles, Tristan Bradley finished 16-10 and Ethan Bradley went 18-11 last season. 

SCOUTING THE JUMBOS
•    No. 3 Tufts brings back 11 players from a team that wen 24-2 and reached the NCAA Division III national championship match last May. 
•    Five of the six players that competed in the national final in singles are back, as are Vuk Vuksanovic and Derin Acaroglu, who were seeded second in the NCAA Doubles Championship last May. 
•    Acaroglu was 18-5 in singles, Alex Ganchev went 21-5 in all singles matches last year and Javier Gonzalez finished with a 15-7 record. 
•    Vuksanovic and Acaroglu went 27-9 in all doubles matches, while the duo of Aarush Ganji and Sacha Maes are currently ranked fifth in Division III and went 10-4 during the fall. 

ANDERSON, LEPSOE SWEEP NEWMAC WEEKLY AWARD
•    Anderson was selected as the league's singles player of the week and teamed with Lepsoe to earn the conference's first doubles team of the week award of the spring on Monday. 
•    Anderson owns wins over Augustin Suarez of Bryant and Leon Zeis of Nichols, while the duo split their first two matches, which includes a 6-4 triumph over Marcus Macaulay and Diego Serra Sparrow of Bryant on February 4. 

WILSON EARNS SPOT IN ITA RANKINGS
•    A transfer from Arizona State, Wilson enters the spring sesaon ranked 24th nationally and seventh in the East region by the ITA.
•    He advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA New England Championships back in October and all three of his losses in the fall came in three sets. 

RISING IN THE POLLS
•    After making its way up to 18th in last season's final ITA Division III poll, Babson will begin the spring portion of its schedule with its highest ranking in program history at No. 16. 
•    Under the direction of Kopelman, who is now in his sixth season as head coach, the Beavers earned their first national ranking in the spring of 2020 prior to the pandemic and have appeared in the final national poll of the sesaon in four consecutive seasons.

CHALLENGES KEEP COMING
•    Beginning with its 6-3 loss at Rensselaer back on February 17, Babson will face seven consecutive nationally-ranked opponents. 
•    Following the matches with Bowdoin and Tufts, the Beavers travel to southern California to take on 30th-ranked Redlands on March 13 before facing three more top foe at the Stag-Hen Invitational, beginning with No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus on March 15. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 3-1 this season when recording victories at number one singles and number one doubles. 
•    Going back to the start of last season, the Green and White has led after doubles in 19 of 25 matches. 
•    Babson is 5-3 against nationally-ranked opponents going back to the start of last season.
