THE SETUP
• The Babson men's and women's swimming & diving teams along with their conference rivals descend upon MIT's Zesinger Center Pool for the 2024 NEWMAC Championships beginning on Thursday evening.
• The league meet will run through Sunday night with preliminaries in the morning sessions (10 a.m.) and finals in the evening (6 p.m.) as both the men's and women's squads will compete in 20 events.

2023 NEWMAC CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
• The Babson men placed third with 725 points, the highest point total since 2002 when they placed a program-best second. The Babson women finished seventh for the fourth straight year with 332 points, the second-highest total in program history behind the 2019-20 squad, which finished with 343.5 points.
• The women's squad set four program records, including a pair of backstroke marks by
Molly Cox '23 as well as the 200 and 400 free relays. The men's squad established five program record, four in relay events and senior
Blake Albanese in the 100 breaststroke.
• Both Beaver squads made podium appearances as senior
April Kupsky finished third in the 400 IM while sophomore
Spencer Ernst took third in the 1,650 freestyle, the men's 200 free relay team placed second and the 400 medley relay team tied for third.
• MIT captured both team championships, marking 14 titles in a row in the men's meet and 12 straight in the women's.
BABSON'S 2023 NEWMAC HIGHLIGHTS
• Albanese set the program record in the 100 breaststroke for the second straight season, posting a time of 55.99 in the 100 breaststroke to take fourth place.
• The 200 free relay team of Albanese, senior
Nathan Ford, and juniors
Pat Anutarasoti and
Aidan Downey-Lamprey finished runner-up in a program-record time of 1:22.46, becoming Babson's first All-Conference selections since 2014 and the first relay All-Conference team since 2002. The same contingent finished fourth in the 400 free relay in a record time of 3:04.15.
• The 200 medley relay team of seniors
Joshua Kim and
Joshua Sellers, Anutarasoti and Downey-Lamprey recorded a program-record time of 1:32.32 to take fifth place, while the 400 medley relay squad of Albanese, Ford, Anutarasoti and Downey-Lamprey turned in a record time of 3:23.35 to finish in a tie for third.
• Other top five finishers for the Beaver men included Anutarasoti (4th) and Ford (5th) in the 50 free, Anutarasoti (5th) in the 100 fly, Ford (5th) in the 100 back, and Sellers (4th) and Albanese (5th) in the 200 breast.
• Cox broke the women's program record in the 100 back with a time of 58.21 in the prelims on the way to a fifth place in the finals. She eclipsed the record in the 50 back (27.05) on the leadoff leg in the 200 medley relay.

Sophia Sznewajs lowered the program standard in the 200 free relay (1:38.47) to place sixth. The same four established a new program mark in the 400 free relay with a seventh-place time of 3:35.37.
TOP NEWMAC TIMES (MEN)
• Anutarasoti has five top-five times among NEWMAC men's swimmers this season, ranking third in the 50 breast (25.91), fourth in the 100 breast (56.35), fourth in the 100 fly (49.64), and fifth in the 50 fly (22.97) and 50 free (21.05).
• Ernst has three top 10 times in distance free races, ranking fifth in the 1000 (9:51.44), seventh in the and 1,650 (16:35.80) and ninth in the 500 (4:45.37). Ford ranks seventh in the 50 free (21.22) and eighth in the 100 back (51.92), Sellers is fifth in the 200 breast (2:05.96), Downey-Lamprey is sixth in the 50 fly (23.34), and Albanese is eighth in the 100 breast (57.26).
• Babson has posted the top four and five of the top six 100 IM times among the NEWMAC men's swimmers this season, Cheung (1st/51.92), Ford (2nd/52.73), Albanese (3rd/53.35), Kim (4th/53.37) and Sellers (6th/53.77).
TOP NEWMAC TIMES (WOMEN)
• Sznewajs tops the Babson women among NEWMAC swimmers, ranking fourth in the 100 IM (1:02.80) while Belfonti is seventh in the 50 fly (26.55) and junior
Emily Tran is seventh in the 100 IM (1:03.67) and 13th in the 50 back (28.08).
• Kupsky has five top performances for the Beavers, ranking 14th in the 200 fly (2:12.58), 16th in the 200 breast (2:33.27) and 17th in the 200 back (2:12.08), 500 free (5:21.07), and 400 IM (4:52.65).
• Sznewajs is also 11th in the 50 fly (26.80), and Garvey (18:45.44) and Randell (19:09.55) are 12th and 15th in the 1,650 free, respectively.
DIVING OUTLOOK
• The Beavers will be represented by first-year
David Krol and senior
Maxwell Leussler in the men's diving events and junior
Elina Sung in the women's.
• Krol, who broke the program 6-dive record this season with 321.35 points against Bridgewater State, is one of just two NEWMAC men's divers (along with Springfield's Christian Butler) to qualify for the NCAA NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on March 1-2 in Waterville, Maine. Six NEWMAC women have qualified for the regionals.
