BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College men's swimming & diving senior Brett Sheldrick (Plantsville, Conn.) was chosen as the Dunn Gaherin's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Friday. 

Sheldrick has competed in three meets this season for the Beavers and most recently finished seventh in the A final of the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:01.28 at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Roger Williams on November 22-23. He also recorded his top times of the year in both the 50 free (24.97) and 100 free (54.79) at the two day meet. 

A two-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree, Sheldrick spent the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters studying at the London School of Economics. He recorded career-best times of 57.59 in the 100 back and 27.75 in the 50 back at the 2023 conference meet and posted the top times of his career in three freestyle events as a rookie at the 2022 NEWMAC Championships. 

Babson (4-2) returns to action when it travels to Amherst on January 3 at 5 p.m. The Beavers then return home to take on Wesleyan at 12 p.m. on January 4. 

Started in 2020, the Dunn Gaherin's Scholar-Athlete of the Week award honors junior and senior student-athletes that carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher.

Why did you choose to come to Babson?
I chose to come to Babson because I wanted an education that would push me to think outside of conventional thought--to use my creativity and drive to enable positive change in my communities. I also dreamed of being a collegiate athlete and when I visited my junior year of high school the swim team welcomed me with open arms.

Favorite Class at Babson and Why?
Linear Algebra (QTM2600); Babson does an excellent job of facilitating an entrepreneurial and business focused education. Linear algebra, taught by Professor Richard Cleary, provided a unique learning experience focused on mathematical logic and reasoning that nicely complements the core business requirements that all undergraduates must take.

What do you enjoy most about being a student-athlete at Babson?
The community and brotherhood. I met my best friends as a freshman on the men's swim team, and could not be more grateful! My (nearly) four years at Babson has been supported with friends, family, coaches, and Professors who truly care about the Babson community.

I have accepted a full-time offer at Invesco US for their Early Career Investor Program located in New York City.
