No. 7 Field Hockey Hosts Wellesley in NEWMAC Semifinal on Thursday Evening

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 21-28-1 all-time against Wellesley in a series that dates back to 1984.
• The Beavers have captured the last nine games against the Blue and 13 of the last 17 going back to 2010.
• The Green and White have won eight of the last nine by at least three goals.

POSTSEASON HISTORY
• The Beavers and Blue will meet for the 11th time in NEW 6/NEW 8/NEWMAC Tournament history and the first time since 2014.
• Thursday's game will be just the second playoff meeting between the two teams in Babson Park and the first since 1999.
• Wellesley has captured nine of the first 10 playoff victories over Babson, including four times in the quarterfinals between 1995 and 2001 and five times in the semifinals between 2002 and 2014.
• The lone victory for the Green and White was a 1-0 verdict in the semifinals at Wellesley in 2011.

LAST MEETING
• Junior Caroline DiGiovanni and sophomore Helen DiGiovanni combined for three goals and senior Jessica Evans added another as No. 7 Babson registered a 4-1 victory over Wellesley back on October 22 at MacDowell Field.
• First-year Penny Baroni picked up her first career assist and senior Bayla Furmanek made two saves in goal for the Beavers, who finished with a 23-7 margin in shots.
• Senior River Schiff scored the lone goal for the Blue with an assist from first-year Claudia Summers. Senior Eleanor Wenners made a defensive save and first-year goalie Maddie Miller made eight saves in goal in the setback.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Top-seeded and seventh-ranked Babson (16-3, 9-0 NEWMAC) brings an 11-game winning streak into the game after winding up the regular season with an 8-0 victory over Mount Holyoke on Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Evans tallied a career-high six points on two goals and two assists and Caroline DiGiovanni added two goals of her own in the win. Graduate students Katie Guden and Sophie Croci, junior Laney Reed and sophomore Ashley Braren also got into the scoring column for the Beavers.
• DiGiovanni (15-4-34) is in the top three in the NEWMAC in both goals and points, while Evans (12-3-27) is in the top six in both categories. Guden (10-3-23) has seven goals in her last nine outings, and Marguerite (8-4-20) has four goals and an assist in her last six games.
• Furmanek (0.69 GAA, 43 saves) leads the league in shutouts (10) and ranks eighth in Division III in goals against average.

SCOUTING THE BLUE
• Fourth-seeded Wellesley (10-9, 4-5 NEWMAC) snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over fifth-seeded Salve Regina in a quarterfinal game Tuesday in Wellesley.
• Sophomore Katie Golla tallied a goal and an assist and Summers, senior Sara Maniscalco, and sophomore Alex Butulis scored one goal each for the Blue, who led 3-1 by halftime and finished with a 26-4 margin in shots. First-year Hannah Simmonds made two saves in goal in the victory.
• Claudia Summers (9-1-19) has four game-winners and three multi-goal games, while Schiff (8-0-16) had a four-goal game in a win over Bridgewater State. Butulis (5-1-1) and first-year Annika Schermerhorn (4-0-8) third and fourth on the team in goals, and Golla (1-4-6) leads the team in assists.
• Simmonds (5-4, 1.50 GAA, 40 svs.) and Miller (4-2, 1.29 GAA, 31 svs.) have split time in goal for the Blue and have combined for three shutouts.

BABSON IN THE POST-SEASON
• The Beavers earned the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament for the ninth consecutive season going back to 2015.
• Babson claimed the 2010, 2016, 2021, 2022 and 2023 NEWMAC Tournament championships and has played in the title game six times in seven seasons going back to 2016.
• The Beavers, who are 7-6 in the semifinal round going back to 2010, have played their last 14 conference playoff games at home since 2015.

NEWMAC HISTORY
• Babson owns a 68-game NEWMAC regular season winning streak going back to 2015.
• The Green and White have won 40 straight games overall vs. NEWMAC opponents since start of the 2021 season.
• The Beavers outscored their conference opponents 47-3 in nine games this fall.

WEEKLY HONOR
• Senior Ellie Powers was recognized as the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, the first weekly conference honor of her career.
• Powers helped Babson close the regular season with a pair of lopsided wins last week as the Beavers allowed just three shots on goal in a 5-1 win over the University of New England and blanked Mount Holyoke 8-0. She also scored her first goal of the season late in the first quarter against UNE.

FRIENDLY CONFINES
• The Green and White are 8-1 this season on home turf and have won 22 of their last 23 games at MacDowell Field since the start of last season.
• The Beavers are 87-17 at home since the start of the 2015 season.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Evans has increased her career totals to 36 goals, 24 assists and 96 points, which ranks tied for 12th in program history in goals, tied for 11th in assists and 13th in points.
• Marguerite is right behind Evans with 33 goals, 17 assists and 83 points, ranking 14th in program history in both goals and points.
• Furmanek has etched her name in the Babson record books, setting program records for goalie wins (57) and shutouts (31) and enter the week ranked first in winning percentage (.864).
• The Beavers have also gotten outstanding career production from Marsh (26g, 12a, 64pts), Caroline DiGiovanni (30g, 5a, 65pts), and Sharrow (18g, 19a, 55pts).

STIFLING DEFENSE
• The Babson defense, anchored by Sharrow, Powers, junior Sanne van der Goes, and graduate student Brooklyn Lamb, has allowed just 13 goals in 19 games this season, the fewest in the NEWMAC.
• The Beavers have surrendered just five goals in their current 11-game winning streak.
• Since the start of the 2018 campaign, the Green and White are 101-3 when holding the opponents to no more than one goal.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 37-2 since the start of last year and 72-2 over the past four seasons when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The Green and White have won its last 67 games over the past four campaigns when leading at halftime.

UP NEXT
• The winner of Thursday's semifinal will face either second-seeded MIT or third-seeded WPI in Saturday's NEWMAC championship game.
