WALTHAM, Mass.—Senior
Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) led three players in double figures with a game-high 17 points as visiting Babson College defeated Brandeis University, 63-52, in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday afternoon inside Red Auerbach Arena.
Babson has won two of its last three games to improve to 3-3 on the year, while Brandeis drops to 3-4 with its second consecutive loss.
Senior
Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) posted her first double-double of the year and finished with season highs of 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, while sophomore
Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) also recorded a double-double with 14 points and a season-high 10 boards to go along with four steals for the Beavers. Senior
Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) also chipped in with nine points and a season-best five assists in the win.
Senior Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass.) and sophomore Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) both scored 14 points and junior Brooke Reed (Chantilly, Va.) pulled down a team-high rebounds to pace the Judges.
The Green and White opened the game with a 6-0 run and stretched its lead to 15-7 on a layup by Mollica 30 seconds into the second quarter. Brandeis pulled with one at the 4:34 mark of the period before first-year
Julia St. Laurent (Greenland, N.H.) keyed an 8-2 spurt that also included hoops by Reale and Silk to help the Beavers regain a 25-18 advantage with 21 seconds to go before halftime.
The Judges scored on five of their first six possessions out of the break to cut its deficit to 31-30 on a jumper by Ohm with 6:57 left in the third quarter. Silk answered with a layup on the ensuing Babson possession and Mollica followed with a three-pointer to make it 36-30 a minute later.
Sophomore
Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) knocked down a jumper to close the third and Silk scored on the opening possession of the fourth to give the Beavers their first double-digit lead of the game at 42-32 with 9:47 remaining. Ohm scored four points during an 8-2 run that helped the hosts get as close as 44-40 with 5:47 to go before the Green and White pulled away.
A pair of hoops by Reale and a bucket by Silk made it 52-43 with 2:39 to play and Mollica and Reale drilled back-to-back triples to give Babson its largest lead of the contest at 58-45 with 1:22 left.
The Beavers shot 34.9 percent and finished with a 46-36 edge on the glass while committing a season-low 11 turnovers in the victory. The Judges shot just 33.9 percent overall and 2-of-11 (18.2 percent) from three-point range in the loss.
Babson returns to action next Monday when it hosts Norwich at 7 p.m., while Brandeis takes on MIT next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 31-25 all-time against Brandeis and have won three straight and 11 of the last 13 games between the teams.
• Babson is now 3-0 this season and 16-2 since the start of last year when holding its opponents below 60 points.
• Reale now has at least one steal in 15 straight games and has recorded multiple steals 13 times during the streak.
• Mollica and Reale have both scored in double figures in four straight games going back to November 13.
