BRISTOL, R.I.—First-year
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly and the Babson College women's swimming & diving team finishes second at the two-day Fisher Invitational on Saturday evening inside the Roger Williams University Aquatic Center.
The Beavers picked up 359.5 points on Saturday to end the two-day meet with 743.5. Roger Williams finished first with 955.5 points, while Wheaton College (717) and Eastern Connecticut State University (359) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Turhan posted a time of 58.49 and missed
Vera Belfonti's '24 school record by just 0.03 seconds in the 100 butterfly prelims before finishing second in the A final with a time of 58.25 on Saturday night. In addition to her new school mark, she also took first place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:26.30 and teamed with first-years
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) and
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) and sophomore
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) to a second-place showing in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.72.
Netishen came in first with a season-best time of 58.45 in the 100 backstroke and was the runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 24.75 after touching the wall in 24.38 in Saturday morning's prelims. First-year
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) recorded the third win of the evening for the Beavers with a season-best time of 4:46.98 in the 400 IM.
Senior
Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) came in second in the grueling 1650 free with a time of 18:40.07, while junior
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) was one spot behind her in third with a time of 19:22.05. Senior
Maggie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) finished second in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.43 and Gilbert placed third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:34.39.
Racicot came in fourth in the 50 free with a time of 25.80 and sophomore
Nicolette Newsome (Bridgewater, N.J.) was Babson's top performer in the 200 free coming in fifth with a time of 2:01.75.
In addition to the swim teams competing at Roger Williams, senior diver
Elina Sung (Dongguan, China) recorded a score of 112.45 in the 1-meter prelims at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Saturday.
After taking a break for final exams, the Beavers return to action on January 3 at Amherst.
