Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) and first-year
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) each won an individual event on Saturday to help the Babson College men's swimming & diving team capture the team title at the two-day Fisher Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University.
The Beavers finished with 875.5 points to narrowly edge the host Hawks (865 points) for the team victory. Wheaton College finished in third place with 639 points, while Eastern Connecticut State University was fourth with 380.5 points.
Anutarasoti captured the 100 fly with a season-best time of 49.29 while Ambelang finished first in the 100 backstroke in a season-best 52.74. The two also teamed up with first-year
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.) and junior
Hawken Hammen (East Lyme, Conn.) to finish runner-up in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:33.16, which is the third-fastest time in program history.
Babson had strong showings in the distance freestyle as first-year
Ilaan Garware (Pune, India) and sophomore
Jason Zeliph (Voorheesville, N.Y.) placed second and fourth in the 1650 in times of 17:24.66 and 18:08.73, respectively. The Green and White were also well-represented in the 200 free with four "A" finalists, as first-year
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) took third in a season-best 1:45.78, followed by classmate
Liam Maloney (Tampa, Fla.) in fourth in a season-best 1:47.35, graduate student
Cole Seeger (Lakewood, Ill.), in sixth in 1:48.64, and sophomore
Chase Stevens (Suffield, Conn.) in seventh in a season-best 1:49.20.
Sophomore
Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) had an impressive finish in the 400 IM, taking second place in 4:14.19 after touching the wall in 4:13.24 in the prelims, and Zeliph brought home fifth place in 4:33.61, dropping nearly seven seconds off his time in the prelims.
The Green and White had four A finalists in the 200 breaststroke, led by first-year
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) in third place in 2:09.93. Huynh took fourth place in 2:10.56, followed by junior
Marcelo Carrion (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) in fifth in 2:11.05 and Seeger in seventh in 2:16.60.
The Beavers also had three others join Anutarasoti in the A final of the 100 fly, as senior
Matthew D'Elia (Old Bridge, N.J.) finished fourth in 51.91, Rhee was sixth in 52.49, and Hammen was seventh in 53.02.
After taking a break for final exams, the Beavers return to action on January 3 at Amherst.
