BRISTOL, R.I.—Senior
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) broke a pair of school records and was one of three competitors to record a first-place finish as the Babson College men's swimming & diving team sits in second place after day one at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University.
The Beavers have 441.5 points through eight events and trail the host Hawks by just 6.5 points midway through the meet. Wheaton College is in third place with 312 points, while Eastern Connecticut State University sits fourth with 130 points.
Anutarasoti provided the biggest highlight of the night by setting two new school records during his swim in the 100-yard breaststroke. He bettered his own mark with a 50-yard split of 25.84 and touched the wall with a time of 55.68 in the 100 breast. Anutarasoti finished nearly two seconds ahead of first-year teammate
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.) and shattered the previous mark of 55.99 set by
Blake Albanese '24 at last February's NEWMAC Championships.
Senior
Matthew D'Elia (Old Bridge, N.J.) came in first with a season-best time of 1:53.63 in the A final of the 200 butterfly, and sophomore
Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) edged first-year
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) to touch the wall first in the A final of the 200 backstroke. Taslakov posted a season-best time of 1:53.98 that was nearly four seconds faster than Friday morning's prelims, while Ambelang finished in 1:55.74.
Taskalov also was the runner-up in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.50, which was just ahead of graduate student
Cole Seeger (Lakewood, Ill.), who took third in a time of 4:53.86. First-year
Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) touched the wall just 0.04 seconds behind D'Elia to finish as the runner-up in the 200 butterfly, while
Liam Maloney (Tampa, Fla.) trimmed nearly two seconds off his time in the prelims to come in third at 1:54.81.
First-year
Dom Crisafulli (Natick, Mass.) took second place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.06, which was 1.38 seconds ahead of junior
Marcelo Carrion (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who was fourth. First-year
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) also finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.26.
Along with the three individual victories, the Babson quartet of Taslakov, Anutarasoti, Maloney and first-year
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) took first place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:26.75.
MEET NOTES
• Anutarasoti now holds school records in the 50 breast, 100 breast and 100 butterfly in addition to being a part of four school marks in the relays.
• Rhee and Maloney now rank fourth and fifth, respectively, on the program's individual performance list in the 200 butterfly.
