No. 7 Field Hockey Welcomes Keene State for NCAA Tournament First Round on Wednesday at MacDowell Field

WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson College field hockey team will make its fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and ninth overall on Wednesday.
• The No. 7 Beavers welcome Keene State College for a first-round game at MacDowell Field at 3 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
• Wednesday's game will be the fourth career meeting between the two schools, with Babson holding a 2-1 lead in the all-time series that dates back to 2002.
• Keene State defeated the Green and White, 2-1, in the 2002 ECAC Tournament quarterfinals in Keene, N.H.
• The Beavers have captured the last two encounters with regular season victories over the Owls in Keene in 2019 and in Babson Park in 2021, both by 6-1 scores.

LAST MEETING
• Millie Brady '22 and Brianne McGrath '23 M'24 both scored twice as sixth-ranked Babson defeated Keene State, 6-1, on October 10, 2021, at MacDowell Field.
• Isabelle Fournier '23 and Marissa Halkett '23 each scored once, while Kayla Carleton '23 collected an assist for the Beavers. Cassidy Riley '22 made one save in goal in the win.
• Senior Hannah Wood scored for the Owls and Lauren Hausser '23 picked up an assist. Molly Edmark '24 made eight first-half saves, while Victoria Watson '24 and Ashley Enis combined to make five stops in the second half.
• Current Babson seniors Jessica Evans, Berit Sharrow, Camille Marsh, Ellie Powers and Bayla Furmanek and graduate student Andrea Marguerite all saw action in the game, as did Keene State seniors Irini Stefanakos, Hannah Wood and Molly Murray and fifth-year Demetria Gonzalez.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
NCAA Tournament Appearance: 9th
Best NCAA Finish: Semifinals (2016, 2023)

• No. 7 Babson (18-3, 9-0 NEWMAC) brings a 13-game winning streak into the NCAAs after defeating No. 17 MIT, 3-0, to claim its fourth consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship on Saturday at MacDowell Field. The Beavers are led by 18th-year head coach Julie Ryan, who owns a 267-97 career record (.734).
• Sharrow tallied a goal and an assist and Evans was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player for the Beavers. Furmanek made two saves in goal in the victory while juniors Caroline DiGiovanni and Laney Reed potted goals and Powers picked up an assist.
• DiGiovanni (18-4-40) leads the NEWMAC in goals and ranks second in points while Evans (14-4-32) is in the top five in both categories. Graduate student Katie Guden (10-4-24) has five goals and two assists in her last eight outings, Marguerite (8-6-22) has four goals and three assists in her last eight games, and Sharrow has two goals and two assists in her last four contests.
• Furmanek (0.62 GAA, 45 saves) leads the league in goals against average and shutouts (12) and ranks third in Division III in GAA.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
NCAA Tournament Appearance: 15th (14th in Division III)
Best NCAA Finish: Semifinals – Division II (1983); Second Round – Division III (2007, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018)

• Keene State (16-6, 5-1 LEC) captured its 15th Little East Conference (LEC) tournament title and first since 2018 with a 3-2 triumph over top-seeded Vermont State Castleton on Saturday in Vermont. The Owls are led by 35th-year head coach Amy Watson, who owns a 499-237-11 career record (.675).
• Sophomore Meghan Daileanes, junior Grace Bazin and senior Molly Murray scored goals in an eight-minute span in the first quarter to spark the victory over Castleton. Junior Clara Gorman made five saves for the win in goal for the Owls.
• Bazon (26-7-59) leads the LEC in goals and points and Stefanakos (11-18-40) tops the conference in assists. Daileanes (14-7-35) is also among the league scoring leaders and Murray (11-1-23) and sophomore Grace Seabury (9-7-25) are strong offensive threats for the Owls, who have outscored their opponents 80-44.
• Gorman (10-3, 2.01 GAA, 55 svs.) has started 13 games in goal while Katelyn Nicotera (6-3, 2.19 GAA, 71 svs.) has eight starts and they have combined for five shutouts.

NCAA POSTSEASON HISTORY
• Babson has made six of its eight NCAA Tournament appearances since 2016, and advanced to the quarterfinals four times (2016, 2021, 2022 and 2023) and the semifinals twice (2016, 2023).
• The Beavers knocked off Bates (1-0, OT) in last year's second round and Tufts (1-0) in the semifinals in Babson Park before a 3-0 loss to Middlebury in the national semifinals in Newport News, Va.
• Six of the last seven and 10 of the Beavers' last 13 NCAA Tournament contests have taken place in Babson Park.

TOURNAMENT TESTED
• Sharrow has a goal and two assists and Evans has one goal in seven outings over the past three years while DiGiovanni has scored two goals in three NCAA tourney games over the past two years.
• Marsh and Powers also have seven NCAA appearances since 2021. Marguerite has played in six games, junior Sanne van der Goes in five, and Reed in four.
• Furmanek is 3-2 with two shutouts in two years of NCAA Tournament play with 11 saves and five goals allowed.

BUSY BEAVERS
• Evans has tallied four goals and three assists in her last three games and has at least one goal in 11 of the last 15 games, totaling 13 goals and three assists in that span.
• DiGiovanni has scored at least one goal in four straight games and has three two-goal outings in the last six contests.
• Guden has notched at least one goal in seven of her last 11 contests, accumulating seven goals and two assists in that span.
• Marguerite has totaled six points in her last four outings on two goals and two assists.

STIFLING DEFENSE
• The Babson defense, anchored by Sharrow, Powers, van der Goes, and graduate student Brooklyn Lamb, has allowed just 13 goals in 21 games this season, with 12 shutouts.
• The Green and White are ranked second in Division III with a 0.62 goals against average.
• The Beavers have surrendered just five goals in their current 13-game winning streak.

FRIENDLY CONFINES
• The Green and White are 10-1 this season on home turf and have won 24 of their last 25 games at MacDowell Field since the start of last season.
• The Beavers are 89-17 at home since the start of the 2015 season.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Evans became the 13th player in program history to reach the 100-point milestone last week, upping her career totals to 38 goals, 25 assists and 101 points. She now ranks 12th all-time in goals and points and 11th in assists.
• Marguerite is right behind Evans with 33 goals, 19 assists and 85 points, ranking 14th in program history in both goals and points.
Caroline DiGiovanni's 18 goals this season ranks tied for 14th on the progam's single season chart and her 33 goals is tied with Marguerite for 14th all-time.
• Furmanek has etched her name in the Babson record books, setting program records for goalie wins (59) and shutouts (33) and enters the NCAA Tournament ranked first in winning percentage (.868).
• The Beavers have also gotten outstanding career production from Marsh (26g, 12a, 64pts) and Sharrow (19g, 20a, 58pts).

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 39-2 since the start of last year and 74-2 over the past four seasons when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The Green and White have won its last 69 games over the past four campaigns when leading at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2018 campaign, the Green and White are 103-3 when holding the opponents to no more than one goal.

• The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to a second-round meeting against either No. 11 Bates or Stevens on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Medford, Mass.
