WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's swimming & diving team recorded four victories and four other top-three finishes in a four-team meet at WPI on Friday night.
The Beavers defeated Brandeis, 189-90, and suffered losses to the host Engineers (147.5-139.5) and Coast Guard (200-93) to fall to 3-2 on the year.
Sophomore diver
David Krol (Grafton, Wis.) swept the diving events for the second straight year, posting a score of 278.90 on the 1-meter board and a total of 263.10 on the 3-meter board for the Green and White. Babson also got victories from senior
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 57.75 seconds and first-year
Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) in the 200 butterfly in 1:57.66.
Rhee led a 1-2-3 finish for the Beavers in the 200 fly as first-year
Liam Maloney (Tampa, Fla.) was the runner-up in 1:57.93 and senior
Matthew D'Elia (Old Bridge, N.J.) came in third place in 1:59.30. Maloney and D'Elia were also fourth (53.36) and sixth (53.58) in the 100 fly, respectively.
First-year
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) touched the wall in second place in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:11.58, and sophomore
Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) and first-year
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) finished third and fourth in the 100 back in times of 53.88 and 54.04 seconds, respectively.
The Beavers finished third in both relay events as the quartet of Taslakov, first-year
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.), Anutarasoti, and first-year
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) completed the 200 medley relay race in 1:36.40, and the group of Taslakov, Ambelang, Iglar and Anutarasoti finished in 3:15.11 in the 400 free relay.
Anutarasoti also placed fourth to lead the Babson contingent in the 100 free in a time of 47.95 seconds, while Hannenian was sixth in 48.43 seconds. Junior
Marcelo Carrion (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) came in eighth in the 200 free in 1:52.14, graduate student
Cole Seeger (Lakewood, Ill.) placed fifth in the 500 free in 5:06.73, and first-year
Ilaan Garware (Pune, India) was fifth in the 1000 free in 10:40.21.
Taslakov touched the wall in sixth place in the 200 back in 1:59.67, and Iglar and Huynh were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100 breast in 59.84 and 1:00.71, respectively. The Beavers also got eighth place finishes from Carrion in the 200 breast (2:16.49) and Hannenian in the 200 IM (2:02.33).
Babson is right back in action on Saturday with a dual meet against Clark at the Morse Pool beginning at 2 p.m.
