No. 6 Field Hockey at Bowdoin
Wednesday, October 9 | 6 p.m.
Ryan Field | Brunswick, Maine

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers are 3-10 all-time against the Polar Bears in a series that dates back to 1985.
• The two sides have played only once since 2001, and that meeting took place in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
• The Green and White are looking for their first win in the series since a 2-1 verdict in 1998.

LAST MEETING
• No. 4 Bowdoin defeated the Beavers 6-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Brunswick back on November 13, 2010, on the way to capturing the Division III national championship.
• Cathleen Smith and Kassey Matoin scored two goals apiece, and Ingrid Oelschlager and Michaela Calnan tallied one each for the winners. Netminder Jess Pashos played valiantly for the Beavers, making 14 saves in the loss.
• The Green and White were making their second NCAA Tournament appearance and had defeated Husson in the opening round in Babson Park, 4-3.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 6 Babson (8-3, 3-0 NEWMAC) brings a three-game winning streak into Wednesday's game after posting consecutive conference shutout victories over Wheaton (7-0), WPI (3-0) and Smith (6-0).
• Graduate students Andrea Marguerite and Katie Guden, seniors Camille Marsh and Jessica Evans, junior Caroline DiGiovanni and first-year Penny Baroni accounted for the six goals in Saturday's win over Smith.
• DiGiovanni (9-3-21) has scored four goals in the three-game winning streak and Evans (6-1-13) has found the net in five consecutive outings. Marguerite (4-2-10) and Marsh (4-1-9) each have two goals in the streak and Guden (4-2-10) has a goal and two assists. Senior Ellie Powers (0-4-4) has four assists in the span and leads the team in assists.
• Furmanek (0.72 GAA, 29 saves) leads the league in shutouts (7) and goals against average, which is also 13th in Division III in GAA.

SCOUTING THE POLAR BEARS
• Bowdoin (3-6, 1-5 NESCAC) is looking to snap a four-game losing skid after suffering a 4-1 setback to No. 1 Middlebury on Saturday.
• Sophomore Clara Noyes scored for the Polar Bears off an assist from senior Caroline Higgins. Sophomore Emily Ferguson and Higgins also found the back of the net in a 5-2 loss to No. 3 Williams back on September 29. Junior Lauren O'Donald made an impressive seven saves against Middlebury and four stops vs. Williams.
• Senior Maya Malenfant (7-4-18) is tied for fifth in the NESCAC in both goals and points. Ferguson (5-2-12) and junior Mackay Bommer (5-1-11) are solid contributors on offense for the Polar Bears and Higgins (2-4-8) is tied for the team lead in assists.
• O'Donald (2.73 GAA, 27 svs.) has started all nine games for the Polar Bears recorded her first career shutout on Wellesley.

• The Green and White are 2-3 against NESCAC teams this season after going 6-2 last season and 4-2 in both 2021 and 2022.

NEWMAC WEEKLY HONOR
• Sharrow was named the NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon.
• The two-time All-American helped the Beavers limit WPI to a season-low three shots, including just one on goal, in Tuesday's 3-0 verdict in Worcester, and then led a stifling defensive effort on Saturday as the Green and White held Smith without a shot for the first time since 2022 in a 6-0 triumph.

BEAVER BITES
• The Beavers are ranked third in Division III in shutouts per game (0.64) and 13th in team goals against average (0.72).
• The Green and White are ranked 14th in Division III in scoring margin (+2.72) and 21st in scoring average (3.44 goals per game).
• Babson has outscored its opponents 38-8, with goals from 12 different scorers.

• Since 2018, the Beavers are 48-0 in the month of October.
• The 48 victories include 22 at home, 25 on the road and one at a neutral site.
• The last road loss in October was a 2-1 verdict at Montclair State on October 28, 2017.

HISTORICAL SUCCESS
• The Babson seniors have achieved remarkable success since 2021, registering an overall record of 70-11 (.862).
• This year's team needs just two wins to match the seniors of 2019, who went 72-17 in their four years.

• Babson is 93-3 since 2018 when holding the opponents to fewer than two goals.
