No. 6 Field Hockey Returns Home to Host Smith in NEWMAC Play on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers own a 25-19-1 lead all-time against the Pioneers in a series that dates back to 1987.
• Babson has won nine in a row and 16 of the last 17 games vs. Smith dating back to 2001.
• The Green and White have won 11 of the last 12 games by at least three goals.

LAST MEETING
• No. 2 Babson erupted for three goals in a two-minute span in the fourth quarter, including a pair of scores by junior Caroline DiGiovanni, in a 4-0 victory over Smith on September 30, 2023, at the Smith Turf Field.
• Senior goalie Bayla Furmanek needed to make just one save to record her fourth straight shutout. Classmate Berit Sharrow and Sinead Walsh M'24 also scored for the Beavers, senior Jessica Evans collected two assists and graduate student Andrea Marguerite added one helper in the win.
• Junior keeper Abby Halpin had a solid effort in goal and finished with six saves for the Pioneers, who were outshot 14-4.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 6 Babson (7-3, 3-0 NEWMAC) is coming off back-to-back NEWMAC shutout victories including a 3-0 verdict at WPI on Tuesday evening.
• Senior Camille Marsh, Evans and DiGiovanni scored goals in an 11-minute stretch midway through the first half for the Green and White. Graduate student Katie Guden and senior Ellie Powers collected assists and Furmanek registered one save to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Caroline DiGiovanni (8-3-19) is tied for second in the NEWMAC in goals and third in points while Evans (5-1-11) is second on the team in scoring. Marguerite (3-2-8), Guden (3-2-8), Marsh (3-1-7), Sharrow (3-1-7) and sophomore Helen DiGiovanni (3-1-7) give the Beavers a balanced scoring attack and Powers (0-4-4) leads the team in assists.
• Furmanek (0.80 GAA, 29 saves) leads the league in shutouts (6) and goals against average, which is also 15th in Division III in GAA.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
• Smith (1-8, 0-2 NEWMAC) has dropped its last eight games after a season-opening 6-0 victory over Nichols.
• Senior Laura Dreher scored the lone goal for Smith in a 2-1 setback to Western New England on Wednesday, and Dreher and classmate Caroline McShea found the back of the net in last Saturday's 4-2 NEWMAC loss to Salve Regina. First-year Emma Newman made four saves in goal against Salve and a season-high 11 stops against Western New England.
• Dreher (7-2-16) is tied for fifth in the NEWMAC in goals and tied for sixth in points. Junior Annika Peterson (3-3-9) tops the squad in assists and McShea (3-1-7) and graduate student Ramsay Smith (2-1-5) are multi-goal scorers. Senior Kyleigh Poot has a team-high four defensive saves for the Pioneer defense, second-most in the NEWMAC.
• Newman (4.20 GAA, 34 svs.) has started the past five games in goal for the Pioneers after senior Rory Harper (3.12GAA, 40 svs.) handled goalie duties in the first four contests.

HOME SWEET HOME
• After four straight road games and seven of the last eight on foreign turf, the Beavers return to McDowell Field on Saturday, where they are 2-1 this season.
• Babson is 16-1 at home since the beginning of last season and 40-5 over the past four seasons.

BEAVER BITES
• The Beavers are ranked fourth in Division III in shutouts per game (0.60) and 15th in team goals against average (0.80).
• The Green and White are ranked 18th in Division III in scoring margin (+2.39) and 24th in scoring average (3.18 goals per game).
• Babson has outscored its opponents 32-8, with goals from 11 different scorers.

THE STREAK CONTINUES
• Babson has won 62 consecutive NEWMAC regular season games going back to October 20, 2015. The last regular season loss was a 1-0 verdict at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.
• The Beavers have captured 34 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents, including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.

MOVING UP ON THE CHARTS
• Furmanek's win over WPI on Tuesday gave her a career record of 48-9, giving her second place alone on the program's all-time list for victories. She needs six wins to catch all-time leader Cassidy Riley '22, who was 54-11 from 2018-21.
• Evans has upped her career assist total 22, which is tied for 15th on the all-time list, and her 80 career points is 14th overall.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 29-2 since the start of last year and 64-2 over the past four seasons when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The Green and White have won its last 60 games over the past four campaigns when leading at halftime.
• Since 2018, the Beavers are 47-0 in the month of October.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will be back on the road at Bowdoin on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. match-up in Brunswick, Maine.
