Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 11 Men's Soccer Clinches NEWMAC Regular Season Title with 2-0 Win at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass.—No. 11 Babson College scored a goal in each half and defeated Clark University, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Wednesday night at Granger Field.

With its fourth consecutive victory, Babson improved to 11-1-6 overall and 6-0-1 in league play while securing its fourth regular season title in the last six seasons and the top seed in next week's conference tournament. Clark drops to 5-8-4 overall and 0-6-1 in NEWMAC play with the loss and is officially eliminated from conference tournament contention.

Graduate student James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) and junior James Modiano (Montclair, N.J.) provided the goals and graduate student Samuel Kalishman (Clarksville, Md.) and junior Liam Goldstein (Princeton, N.J.) added assists for the Beavers. Senior goalkeeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) made two saves to record his 26th career shutout.

Junior goalkeeper Diego Marin (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) finished with six saves in the loss for the Cougars.

The Green and White opened the scoring off a corner kick in the 19th minute. Goldstein's header was cleared off the goal line by first-year Joseph Joannou (Shoreham, N.Y.) but the loose ball popped out to Kalishman just inside the top of the box and Donaldson redirected his blast through traffic in front of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

White made his best save of the night, charging out towards the top of the box and sliding to deny Clark sophomore Marc Kim's (Watertown, Mass.) scoring chance in the 53rd minute to keep the Beavers in front. Marin was well-positioned stop graduate student Kento Abe's (Quincy, Mass.) 12-yard strike following a corner kick in the 63rd minute and sophomore Luca Tusche (Montville, N.J.) missed just wide of the right post from the left side of the box in the 65th minute.

Babson doubled its advantage in the 67th minute on Modiano's second marker of the year. Marin got his hands on Tusche's corner kick but was unable to catch it cleanly and Goldstein touched it back to Modiano, who knocked it under the crossbar from just outside the six-yard box to make it 2-0.

White helped the Beavers secure the shutout with his second save of the night in the 72nd minute, covering the right post to push away senior Tyler Manley's (New Rochelle, N.Y.) header off a long free kick.

The Green and White finished the night with an 18-6 edge in shots and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams conclude the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday as Babson hosts Coast Guard, while Clark visits Emerson.
