Women’s Swimming & Diving Too Strong for Bridgewater State on Senior Day, 212-82

BABSON PARK, Mass. —The Babson College women's swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events as four Beavers captured multiple events on the way to defeating Bridgewater State University on Senior Day inside Morse Pool, 212-82.

Senior April Kupsky (Bear Creek, Pa.) won three events and juniors Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.) and sophomore Emma Chenski (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) all recorded two wins apiece for the Beavers.

The Beavers snapped a three-meet skid and evened their record at 6-6 overall while the Bears dropped their third in a row and fell to 3-6.

Kupsky was the top performer for the Beavers, winning the 200 butterfly in 2:19.51, the 200 backstroke in 2:17.52 and the 400 IM in 5:01.33. Garvey brought home first place in the 1000 freestyle in 11:34.50 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:44.71, Daniels was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:11.57) and 100 free (56.57), and Chenski captured the 200 free (2:06.83) and 500 free (5:39.55).

Also touching the wall first for the Green and White in individual events were senior Vera Belfonti (Orange, Conn.) in the 100 fly in 1:01.87, junior Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.) in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.73, first-year Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) in the 50 free in 26.65 seconds.

The Beavers were victorious in both relay races as Tran, Daniels, Belfonti and Racicot finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:53.27) and Daniels, Tran, sophomore Sophia Sznewajs (Edina, Minn.), and Racicot won the 200 free relay (1:42.99).

Senior Sophia Swain (Burnt Hills, N.Y. )also brought home second place finishes in the 200 fly (2:21.50) and 500 free (5:40.26), sophomore Catherine Curry (Melrose, Mass.) was runner-up in the 50 free (26.52) and 100 fly (1:04.25), and first-year Nicolette Newsome (Bridgewater, N.J.) place a pair of races, the 200 back (2:21.47) and the 400 IM (5:07.50).

Other notable swims for the Beavers included sophomore Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) finishing second in the 1,000 free (11:47.03), junior Sophia Silver (Fayetteville, N.Y.) taking second in the 200 free (2:10.09), junior Maggie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) placing second in the 100 back (1:03.41), and Racicot finishing runner-up in the 100 free (57.12).

The Beavers will wrap up the dual meet portion of the season with a visit to Springfield on Saturday, February 10, at 12 p.m.
