Trinity Pulls Away from Women's Basketball, 63-49

HARTFORD, Conn.—Senior Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) led all players with 20 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore Theresa Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.) hit a pair of key three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help Trinity College pull away for a 63-49 win over visiting Babson College in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday afternoon inside Ray Oosting Gymnasium.

Babson drops to 5-7 on the year while Trinity improves to 8-4 overall with its second consecutive victory.

Sophomore Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Beavers. First-year Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) contributed nine points, four boards, four steals and two assists, while Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) added eight points. Classmate Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) matched her season high with nine rebounds and sophomore Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) led all players with four assists in the loss.

Junior Indi DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) finished with 10 points and three steals off the bench, while Twardosky and senior Emma Wax (Pine Brook, N.J.) both added eight points for the Bantams.

Senior Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.) and Perreault canned back-to-back three-pointers to end the first quarter and Mollica hit a pull-up jumper to open the second as the Green and White rallied from an early 9-0 deficit to jump in front 12-11. Perreault hit another triple on the next possession and Reale's trifecta gave the Beavers their largest lead of the game at 18-15 with 6:49 to go before halftime.

Odam answered a 9-2 run by Trinity with a three-pointer to regain a 25-24 edge at the 2:57 mark before the hosts rattled off a 12-0 spurt to go in front for good. Wax and DelRocco scored the final seven points of the second quarter to forge a 31-25 lead at the break and senior Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) banked in a three-pointer from the left wing following a layup by Wax to stretch the Bantams' advantage to 36-25 just over a minute into the third period.

Babson made just one field goal over the first five-plus minutes of the stanza but got five straight points from Mollica, a jumper by Perreault and a layup from Reale to cut its deficit to 42-37 with 2:00 to go in the frame. Campbell scored four straight points for Trinity to push the margin back to nine and Twardosky answered a bucket by Perreault with her second three-pointer of the quarter to make it 54-43 with 4:41 remaining.

Sophomore Lillie Cumming (Medfield, Mass.) converted a layup and drilled a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions and DelRocco knocked down a pair of free throws to give Trinity its biggest lead of the game at 61-43 with 2:24 to go.

The Beavers shot 33.3 percent from the floor, while the Bantams shot 38.7 percent and finished with a 39-34 edge on the glass.

Babson returns to action on Sunday when it hosts No. 21/21 Tufts at 1 p.m. Trinity begins a five-game road trip at Colby on Friday at 7 p.m.
