NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Babson College women's track & field team recorded seven top-three finishes along with nine personal best performances and tied for fourth out of 14 schools Saturday afternoon at the Coast Guard Invitational at the Nitchman Track.
The Beavers scored 56 points to tie with Westfield State for fourth place and placing ahead of fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schools Wellesley (50 points) and Smith (48.5). Coast Guard (181) took the team title, followed by Connecticut College (108) and Trinity (58) in the top three spots.
First-year Robyn Wilkes (Atlanta, Ga.) turned in the top performance for the Beaver women, running the 100 meters in a personal-best time of 12.72 seconds to take third place. The time is the 10th-fastest time in the East region this spring and meets the New England Division III qualifying standard. Wilkes placed seventh in the 200 meters in a time of 26.98, followed by senior Caroline Reilly (East Greenwich, R.I.) in ninth place in a personal-best time of 27.47.
Babson had four of the top 10 finishers in the 100-meter hurdles, led by first-year Brooke Jankowski (Methuen, Mass.) in third place in a PR time of 15.65. Senior Rachel Ip (Wellesley, Mass.) was fifth in a PR time of 16.59, sophomore Trista Sicard (Mansfield, Mass.) was ninth in 17.41, and first-year Julia Pike (Mansfield, Mass.) was 10th in a PR time of 17.46.
Sophomore Angela Hagstrom (Portsmouth, N.H.) crossed the finish line in second place in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:08.00. Reilly placed third in the 400 meters in a PR time of 1:02.12, and first-year Chloe Clifford (Marshfield, Mass.) was seventh in 1:03.93.
Babson's 4x100-meter relay contingent of Reilly, Jankowski, Wilkes, Hagstrom, finished runner-up in a time of 50.56 seconds.
First-years Alexandra Kirkpatrick (Middleborough, Mass.) and Avery Butt (Orange, Conn.) turned in their personal-best showings in the 1500 meters with times of 5:14.94 and 5:36.78, respectively.
Jankowski posted a third-place finish in the high jump with a personal-best leap of 5-feet, 1.75-inches, and Sicard was also third in the triple jump with a mark of 34-feet, 8.5 inches. First-year Ashna Krishnamurthy (Saratoga, Calif.) came in seventh with a result of 16-feet, 2.5-inches in the long jump.
Babson returns to New London, Conn., to compete at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on April 14-15.
