WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson men's and women's track & field teams head to New London, Conn., for the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday.
• The field events get underway at 10 a.m. with the tracks events set to start at 11 a.m.
LAST TIME AT COAST GUARD
• Colin Cianciolo '22 broke his own school record in the 200 meters with a time of 22.13 in a third-place finish as Babson recorded nine top-five finishes at Coast Guard on April 9, 2022.
• Senior Jed Kaufman came in second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.31, while sophomore Harrison Prucher placed fourth in a time of 15.86 that qualified him for the NCAA regional championships. Sophomore Jack Reynolds was the runner-up in the high jump clearing 6-feet, 2.75-inches and junior Eric Bottern came in second in shot put, sixth in the discus and eighth in the hammer throw.
• Nina Sitarski '22 bettered her own program mark in the hammer by just over two feet with a throw of 98-feet, 5-inches, and Katherine Jacobs '22 won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56 that was tied for eighth in Division III. Sophomore Angela Hagstrom placed second with a season-best time of 1:09.56 in the 400-meter hurdles, while senior Caroline Reilly recorded career-best times in both the 200 meters (27.57) and 400 meters (1:03.85).
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers are coming off a strong meet at the Tufts SnowFlake Classic last Saturday, finishing runner-up as a team with three first-place finishes, three school records, two NCAA regional championship qualifying marks and one NEICAAA qualifying mark.
• Senior Yudai Yamakawa finished first in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a program-record time of 9:51.53, qualifying him for the NCAA regional meet. First-year Max Gregoire brought home first place in the 800 meters in a time of 1:56.77 and was joined by juniors Ian Richter and Demarre Johnson and grad student Ryan Wilson on the winning 4x400-meter relay team that finished in a time of 3:32.02.
• Bottern broke his own school records in both the shot put and hammer throw. He finished runner-up in the shot with a mark of 52-feet, 4.5 inches, third in the discus with another career-best throw of 133-feet, 0.75-inches, and took fifth in the hammer with a record mark of 137-feet, 3.5 inches.
• First-year Julian Ivarra took second place in the 10,000 meters in a personal best time of 32:12.93, which is an NCAA regional and NEICAAA qualifying time.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The 4x400-meter relay team set a new school record and the Beavers recorded five top-three finishes on the way to coming in sixth among 20 teams at the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
• The quarter of Reilly, first-years Brooke Jankowski and Chloe Clifford and Hagstrom took first place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:05.08. Reilly, Jankowski, first-year Robyn Wilkes and Hagstrom also led the Beavers to a first-place showing with a time of 50.59 in the 4x100-meter relay.
• Jankowski finished second in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 15.87 and posted a time of 16.07 to take third place in the finals. Wilkes also came in third in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a season-best mark of 12.86. She also placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.07.
• Senior Nicole Johns finished fourth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 43:18.48, while Hagstrom came in fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:06.88.
PROGRAM RECORDS
• The records set at Tufts ups the total number of program records set this season to six for the men and four for the women.
• The new men's standards were set by Bottern in the shot put (twice, 52-feet, 3.25-inches and 52-feet, 4.5-inches) and hammer throw (twice, 133-feet, 2-inches and 137-feet, 3.5 inches), junior Anthony Rodriguez in the 5000 meters (14:40.02), and Yamakawa in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:51.53).
• The new record holders for the Babson women include first-year Ashna Krishnamurthy in the triple jump (35-feet, 10.5-inches), Jankowski in the long jump (16-feet, 7.75-inches), and the contingent of Reilly, Jankowski, Hagstrom and Clifford in the 4x400 relay, accomplished twice (4:07.53 and 4:05.08).
TOP DIVISION III PERFORMANCES
• The Babson men have a pair of performances that rank in the top 40 in Division III this spring. Bottern's shot put mark of 15.96 meters (52-feet, 4.5-inches) is ranked ninth nationally and Rodriguez' time of 14:40.02 is the 36th fastest time in the 5000 meters in Division III.
• The Babson women have three top 40 performances in Division III this spring. Krishnamurthy owns the 33rd best mark in the triple jump (35-feet, 10.5-inches); Hagstrom is ranked 38th in the 400 hurdles (1:06.89); and the 4x400 meter relay team (Reilly Jankowski, Clifford, Hagstrom) is 27th (4:05.08). The 4x100 meter relay team (Hagstrom, Wilkes, Krishnamurthy, Reilly) is 45th (49.65).
MEN'S EAST REGION LEADERS
• The Babson men have 11 individual performances that rank in the top 10 in the east region and one top 10 relay time.
• Bottern is second in the region in the shot put (52-feet, 4.5-inches) and sixth in the discus (133-feet, 1-inch), Reynolds is sixth in the high jump (6-feet, 1.25-inches) and junior Michael Agard is seventh in the long jump (21-feet, 8.25-inches). On the track, Rodriguez is third in the 5000 meters (14:40.02), Yamakawa is third in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:51.53), and Ivarra is ninth in the 10,000 meters (32:12.93) while Agard is ninth in the 100 meters (11.23), Kaufman is eighth in the 110 hurdles (15.33), Gregoire is sixth in the 800 meters (1:55.93), Wilson is eighth in the 1500 meters (4:02.04), and Babson's 4x400 meter relay team of Richter, Johnson, Gregoire and Wilson are fourth (3:32.02).
WOMEN'S EAST REGION LEADERS
• The Babson women have seven individual performances that rank in the top 10 in the east region and two top 10 relay times.
• Krishnamurthy is fifth in the triple jump (35-feet, 10.5 inches) and eighth in the long jump (16-feeet, 7-inches) while Jankowski is seventh in the long jump (16-feet, 7.75-inches) and first-year Trista Sicard is eighth in the triple jump (35-feet, 0.5-inches). On the track, Hagstrom is seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:06.88), Jankowski is ninth in the 100 hurdles (15.87) and Clifford in 10th in the 800 meters (2:22.74). Both the 4x100 (49.65) and 4x400 (4:05.08) relay teams are listed fourth in the region.
TEAM RANKINGS
• The Babson men ranked sixth in the East region by the US Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
• Their 301.63 points are behind only Tufts, Bates, MIT, Colby and Bridgewater State and ahead of Bowdoin, WPI, Wentworth and Sothern Maine.
• The Babson women ranked 11th in the East region with 218.51 points, less than 10 points out a cracking the top 10 and fourth among NEWMAC schools behind MIT (3rd, 424.00), Wheaton (5th, 381.37), and WPI (6th, 345.86).
