Women's Lacrosse Downed by No. 14 Williams, 13-5

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Isabel Arvello (Moorestown, N.J.) scored four times and 14th-ranked Williams College jumped out to a five-goal halftime lead en route to a 13-5 win over Babson College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at MacDowell Field.

Babson, which had its two-game winning streak snapped, drops to 4-6 on the year while Williams improves to 9-1 with its ninth consecutive victory.

Graduate student Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.) finished with four goals and one assist for five points to lead the Beavers. Senior Claudia Dodge (Pelham, N.Y.) scored once and led all players with three caused turnovers, sophomore Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) led all players with seven draw controls and classmate Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) made six saves in the loss.

Sophomore Elsa Dean-Muncie (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) had three goals and first-year Franny Donohue (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) scored twice and dished out three assists for five points to lead the Ephs' offense. Fellow rookie Kiki Higgins (Weston, Mass.) tied for game-high honors with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while sophomore Caroline Pratt (Fairfield, Conn.) made six of her nine saves in the second half.

Arvelo put Williams in front just over three minutes into the game and first-year Paige Nelson (Sudbury, Mass.) and Dean-Muncie scored just 43 seconds apart to give the visitors a 3-0 lead with 4:44 to go in the first quarter. Curtis cut the Babson deficit to 4-1 with 11:42 to go in the second but Arvelo answered with a free-position tally 33 seconds later and junior Abby Godwin (Duxbury, Mass.) scored with 1:00 to go in the second extending the Ephs' lead to 6-1 at the half.

Curtis buried a free-position chance less than 90 seconds into the third quarter and then set up a tally by Dodge to help the Beavers pull within 7-3 with 11:45 remaining in the stanza. Arvelo answered with back-to-back free-position goals and Dean-Muncie scored in the closing seconds of the frame as Williams pushed its advantage back to 10-3 going to the fourth.

Curtis put away consecutive free-position chance 42 seconds apart to cut the Babson deficit to 10-5 with 10:03 left before the Ephs responded with the final three goals of the night. Donohue finished off a free-position opportunity with 8:11 to go and then registered her third assist of the contest to cap the run with under two minutes to play.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Mount Holyoke at 1 p.m., while Williams hosts Hamilton next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• Babson is now 2-2 all-time against Williams and Wednesday's game was the first played between the teams in Babson Park.
• Curtis has recorded nine consecutive multi-goal games.
• Wednesday's loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Beavers in the month of April going back to last season.
