Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.) scored five goals and added one assist, all in the first quarter as Babson College jumped out to an 11-0 lead, and 13 different Beavers went on to score as the Green and White rolled past Emerson College, 22-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action at MacDowell Field.
With the win, Babson won for the fourth time in its last five games to improve to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in the NEWMAC while Emerson lost its seventh in a row and fell to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
First-year Lilly Bedard (Jupiter, Fla.) scored three goals to go along with one assist, classmates Cameron Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Maria Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore Kathryn Blake (Medfield, Mass.) scored twice each, and sophomore Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) contributed a goal and two assists. Senior Erin Jayne (Merrimac, Mass.) and sophomores Solana Fahey (North Andover, Mass.), Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) and Nora Lema (Duxbury, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist apiece, and senior Claudia Dodge (Pelham, N.Y.), junior Nicole Darveau (Sudbury, Mass.) and sophomore Michaela Downer (North Andover, Mass.) found the net once each.
Connolly grabbed a game-high 12 draw controls for the Beavers, Dodge scooped up four ground balls and Connolly, junior Kayleigh Hacker (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Sophie Shuman (Topsfield, Mass.) grabbed three each, and sophomore goalie Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) made five saves in the victory.
Junior Lauren Longstreet (Alamo, Calif.) scored the lone goal and collected three draw controls for the Lions, while first-year Samantha Bowen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls. Senior goalie Nina Khosla (La Jolla, Calif.) made five saves in the first half and first-year Ellie Spotts (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) came on and made six stops in the second half of the setback.
The Beavers wasted no time in taking command of the game as Curtis and Blake scored twice each in the first three minutes and Evans followed for an early 5-0 lead. Curtis tacked on her third goal, Darveau made it 7-0, and Curtis added two more and Jayne and Dodge one each for an 11-0 lead by the end of the opening frame.
Babson went to its reserves in the second quarter and with the clock running, outscored the visitors 4-0 and Bedard fired in two goals and Rabenold and Lema added one each for a 15-0 margin at the intermission. Rabenold potted her second goal in the third quarter and Martignetti went back-to-back as the lead ballooned to 18-0 after three.
The hosts dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Lions 42-6, winning the draw controls 17-8, and the ground ball battle, 28-10. The Green and White were good on 9-of-10 clears while limiting Emerson to just four clears on 19 attempts.
Babson plays its final regular season home game on Saturday with a NEWMAC contest against Coast Guard at 12:00 p.m. at MacDowell Field. Emerson hosts Smith Saturday at 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• Babson has won seven straight against the Lions and is 7-1 all-time against Emerson in a series that dates back to 2014.
• The Green and White reached the 20-goal plateau for the sixth time this season and the 11th time since the beginning of April 2022.
• Babson is 46-5 in regular season games against NEWMAC opponents since the start of 2016.
• Eleven of the last 15 victories against conference schools going back to last season have been by at least 10 goals.
